Does frigid cold weather cause limp modes?
Im just curious because I am running V2 with the latest map and I notice that I have been getting limp modes in higher gears esp. 3-4th. Im wondering if cold weather puts more load on the engine since Boost is not the only factor for engine load. In chicago its very cold, right now its -5F! not that I am going to push my car in this weather but I do when the roads are clean and its in the upper 20's or 30's and thats when i had the limp modes and SES lights.

It was -10. Waited for the car to warm up (as much as it possibly could at that temp) and it threw limp codes in 3rd and 4th. Not pushing it too hard either. Guess V2 is pretty picky at these cold temps.
When close to zero or below, I've just been keeping stock map and that keeps things under control. |

Chitown,
If I remember correctly you said you were getting these limp modes at or near redline right? If so, hook up your computer and at 6500 rpms and 7000 rpms lower your user torque settings by .5% (or whatever it rounds too). So if you are at 93.1xxx% at 6500 and 7000 rpms, punch in 92.4% (and it will round to the appropriate amount) and see if that solves the issue. |

I would be very curious to hear Shiv's response to this.
I'm waiting until the end of winter to add a piggyback to avoid this very type of behavior. I've run my stock car at -36F ambient temperature, and I suspect the stock ECU is dampening boost substantially when it gets very cold. Once the ambient temperature gets back to -10F or warmer, performance seems to return to normal. Is there a certain ambient temperature at which significant pressurization of the air charge is deemed excessive by the ECU? This is my first FI vehicle, and more knowledgeable input would be welcome. |

dont fool yourself, cold weather should help the car. They actually make more power when's its colder. Also out here you will run your fastest track times in the spring and fall when its cooler. The vette runs like a beast with the blower in this weather. Just can't get traction. +1 hotrod182
Dont Believe me put the car in the dyno now and again in the summer. Since its so cold here the cars dont have to work as hard to stay cool. Literally this weather is like a mini nos shot. |

I still stand by what I told you yesterday. Get into limp, take procede out and go to the dealership. Let them take a took and fix if need be and then hook it back up. Its def not the weather causing this though.

Has your car been sorted out now? I'm having the same issue here. Not so much cold weather but if I drive around, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, are great. Tons of power. I'm using the 12/29 map. If i push it hard and do a 2nd, 3rd, 4th pull letting the car shift, i will randomly get a limp on 3rd/ 4th. I was out logging yesterday and great! Today, WHAM. limp mode.... |

i have a booost gauge and notice i only 12-13psi on days below 20 F. When it warms up above 40-50 the car feels like it runs much better and consistently hits 14-15psi. I thought turbo cars do run more effeciently in the winter, but doesnt necesseraly make them faster. I figured youd make the same hp on a 0-20 F day at 13psi as you wold on a day that was 50F at 15psi. This is what i thought im prob. wrong though. I can understand how an 80F day is not gonna help though. I think 40-50 these cars run their best.
