Weird occurence with heated steering wheel

On my way to work I noticed something quite strange. Had the steering wheel heating turned on most of the way and after it was comfortable in the cabin I turned it off. However, it kept heating more and more and got pretty hot even though the switch was turned off. It was uncomfortable to hold. It usually is about the same temp throughout the trip and it is definitely lower temp than it was when it malfunctioned. Has not happened since though.

Anyone had this happen?

I had this happen to me about a month ago and now about 50% of the time it turns itself off after about 30 seconds like it shorted out or something. The other half of the time it works perfectly.

This has happened to me as well. I turned the heater back on then off and that did the trick. Has not happened since that time though.

Is it possible the wheel heat wiring is powered off a relay? It sounds like the relay is sticking in the closed position when the steering column switch is turned off.

Wow. Ok. I am not alone. I am bringing the car in for service tomorrow and will ask them to have a look.

There was a recall on the heating steering wheel switch sometime back. I had a problem with the switch turning off by itself after a few minutes. Was fixed per the recall.

Same happened to my '11 328 about 2 months ago. Hasn't happened since. Is there any official BMW paperwork on this?
