Removing CF mirror caps?

Having a hard time removing my CF mirror caps. It's applied with the ultra thin 3M tape. Any recommendations on removal without destroying caps and or damaging the AW OE caps surface beneath?

I use that and it works wonderfully. I think you'll have a hard time getting it between the gaps. Once you get the cap off, make sure you clean and wax the OEM mirror cap under it.

Update this to let me know how it works, just bought an M3 that I have to replace the mirror caps as he painted them (m5 scheme) and they are chipping off and peeling. I just want to remove the cf ones and not destroy the OEM underneath while doing so

Oh dang, they must have used some epic adhesive, lmao. Just make sure you clean up afterwards. Don't let that stuff sit for a long while. I don't know if it'll actually hurt the paint on the mirror caps or not, but I didn't want to find out the hard way

I tried it today and it worked around the edges but it just didn't penetrate inside to loosen the tape up. I even let it sit a little. So rather than destroy the caps getting them off I gave up. I'm going to try and find a used set in AW or gloss black to replace these.

If they are oem carbon fiber mirror caps they don't cover the existing covers, they replace them. In which case you have to pop the mirror glass off to access the retaining clips from the inside or you will break them.

They are not replacement covers. I've removed them many times already. They're stock oem covers with a cf caps applied with tape.

On another note anyone got some AW caps for sale?

I've installed many sets of the BMW performance mirror caps and I can tell you for a fact that they are replacement parts, not overlays.

Bro and I'm telling you I know my car better than you do. They are Not replacements. It's a cf overlay on an AW cover. The covers are in FACT AW beneath and I do not need to remove mirrors to get caps off. I simply appply pressure and pull them off each and EVERY time Ive fiddled with getting overlays off.

I don't think he has the OEM ones like you're thinking, Broseidon.

I'm sorry At any rate, though, you could always pull them off and apply the spray a few more times to eat away at the tape. At least then you can sell the CF overlays and see how the AW caps are. IF they're in good shape, sell those too and turn a tiny profit.

As I stated in my first post, they absolutely are NOT overlays IF they are BMW Performance parts. Yours obviously are not these parts, but rather a cheaper alternative.

With his wealth of experience installing many caps one would think he knew there was a distinct difference between and overlay and a replacement.

1- tabs on a cf replacement are glued on the underside which these are not
2- replacements are entirely cf with the exception of the tabs, these are plastic below
3-my oem covers have AW overspray on the bottoms, replacements would not.
4- and the most obvious is my covers are white.

I understand that yours are not oem parts, and I never stated that they were. Since there is not a brand or type listed, I stated IF they were oem parts you have to remove the mirror glass to access the mounting clips. I guess I missed the part where you think I cared what yours are made of? I was trying to be helpful, sorry for your inconvenience.

Lol it's amazing isn't it? I'll even wager him $50 that my caps have overlays applied.

He never stated he didn't. Speaking of pipes, you're not supposed to drink the bong water
