Help needed to identify what this is ?
Tried to take engine cover off a couple of days ago and had problems with last cover hex bolt, became clear that the last owner had tried and failed badly , tried grooving the head of the bolt and ended up snapping the cover, noticed that i now have a hole and a small amount of fumes coming from the hole ...is this the rocker cover ?
Is it safe to drive for now , work in Aberdeen and wont get it looked at until Friday possibly |

There looks to be a part number on it, try to Google it or put it into RealOEM
edit: or post the number here and someone will be able to help |

Number 11
Leads from breather valve to the hose that's between air filter and turbo intake. http://de.bmwfans.info/parts-catalog...er_head_cover/ Sure you snapped it? It's made from very durable plastic.

dont think its the actuual pipe though its where the bolt goes through for the acoustic cover , whatever the bolt screws into has cracked .So its kinda at the side of that pipe

It look's like the rocker cover to me . It will be designed with the thread's moulded in the cover with the brass fitting's . But if they turn because they are seized with the bolt it can split the plastic . Have a look at where the oil filler cap is the part that screw's into is the rocker cover . If it is the same plastic that the bolt head is in . Then it it the rocker cover . If you are going to change it . Put a new gasket on it also .

You broke out the bolt together with the brass female? You must be strong as Chuck Norris. I'm afraid then you'll need the whole valve cover (Nr.1 in the catalogue) unless you find one who can glue/weld glass fibre reinforced plastic

Yes, give it a try. You may use the two bolts from the vacuum tank to provide support.
