NY drivers - front license plate?

Been here before, with my first M in 2010. Taking delivery next week of a new one, the question is do I put the front license plate on? Leased car, better chance that I lease a new one in three years rather than buying this one out.

With my last one while I pulled over almost monthly, I didn't get my first ticket for no front license plate for 2 years. Pain in the ass, have to go to court in NYS.

Do the other NY drivers care to opine?

Thanks

Front plates are also required in California, but unless your actually doing something to get attention they don't bother you, I have never had front plate forever never got a ticket either for it.

I've asked the dealer not to install the bracket, I'll take my chances for now. Thanks.

I've been no front plates since 98' with 2 tickets while parked. I think NYC cops have better things to worry about than a missing front plate.

Careful at the bridges and tunnels OP

Agreed. I've commuted daily into NYC since June, with my license plate in the trunk, and so far so good.
I've also not had any issues going through the Lincoln tunnel twice a day

I've decided I won't be putting it on the front - at least for now. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm with you. I put in the mill works front plate... Not worth the hassle.

I usually don't run front plates on my Ms and I can't remember the last time I got a ticket. But I did go through a 6 month period when I collected a total of 3 tickets quite a few years ago. Now I don't even have a plate on my daily escalade and knock on wood so far so good. Than again the recent 93% decline in nypd tickets issued may have helped there as well...
As long as you don't park on the street I'd take my chances.

I got dinged 3 times...I got through Holland Tunnel fairly frequently and the jerkoff cops are always there and pull me over...probably doesn't help my car is modified but I went with the millworks...that said...on a lease car...I think the normal plate position is better than the tow hook location on the F80s

No front plate for years. Ordered F80 and told the dealer no holes in my bumper as well.

This might be worth it to me if it fits right:

I've run no plate on my F30 but finally ended up putting the tow hook plate on after I was pulled over (warning only) with my wife in the car. Nothing says "I told you so" like getting pulled over.

I did get cited (while speeding) for no front plate, and I also got 1 or 2 parking tickets (and a 3rd very close call - the parking attendants were 2 cars down and hadn't gotten to me).

So I made it about 2 years with just 1 parking ticket, but the others raked up so I put my plate on. Only problem is the US Millworks mount looks much weirder on the F80 because of the bumper angle.

I am thinking about giving one of those magnetic plates that the dealers use for test drives. Anyone have any experience with these?

Front and center. I am not overly concerned about being stopped while driving, in LI anyway. More concerned about street parking where I would slap it on and when I need to go through bridges and tunnels. Would also use it when I go out at night and have a drink or two.

I just really hate the way my car looks now with the tow hook plate. Never bothered me so much on other cars ive owned/seen but it is positioned poorly. Looks terrible.

I haven't had a plate on my last three cars (yellow s2000cr, e92 m3, 14 sti limited). I was in NY/CT and avoided parking on the street. So far so good. No plate will be on the M4 either

+1

Depends on where you live and drive. More cameras, more cops - add plate = less BS.

What I was getting at was that the front bumper is plastic.... I don't think a magnetic plate holder will work there.

Thanks for bringing that up. Didn't even cross my mind. Just saved me $15.00.

What I have done for a few friends of mine is remove the front bumper and hot glue a pair of magnets behind the bumper where a front plate would normally go and then attach the othermagnets to the license plate and voila!
