SOS error on startup
Evening folks,
I have recently acquired a new to me 2006 06 reg 330d e91. It has idrive with Bluetooth that works with my iPhone 5s which is a bonus I wasn't expecting however every time I start up the car the SOS failure warning comes up on the dash which is getting annoying just after a couple of days. Can this be either changed so that the SOS switch can be used for something else? If not then can the error be coded out all together? I've had a search of old posts but couldn't find definitive answers. |

Unsure - how would I go about finding out? There aren't any cables in the glove box and the car doesn't have a USB cable in the centre armrest compartment.

Good question, if you don't know it's there I doubt that's the issue!
Have you pressed the SOS button? Worth a try, if it's connected to bmw assist maybe it bm can be reset. Failing that sounds like an electric issue, sensor, wiring, faulty CD drive (do you have a multichanger?) |

Car may have had CIC retrofitted in the past and when people do not know what to do with the wiring they can leave it as it is when putting TCU back into the car. As suggested earlier, look at TCU box and see if there are any spare wires hanging about. Lastly, yes it can be coded (if cables are all connected).

Well this evening I've had a go at pushing the sos button and it changes the screen on the idrive telling me of my position and a countdown to a call to Bmw assist. I cancelled the call before it happened. I can only assume that this means it works.
Didn't life all of the stuff up in the boot due to loads of baby stuff in there and a crying baby each time so will have a look tomorrow when I change the thermostats and I'm on my own for a while. |

Took the car to a local Indy who said it would need a firmware update and then could be coded out so that the check doesn't happen each time.
Will find out soon how much it will cost which is dependent upon the number of updates they're saying. |

Ok so it only needed one update which was a releif. Now the SOS light doesn't come on when starting but haven't had a chance to use the car for more than 5 minute journeys so unsure if it has completely fixed the problem but I think it's likely that it is fixed. When the SOS button is pushed it now goes thought to the emergency response people.
Thanks for all the input and help. Last edited by Somerset Jim; 12-27-2014 at 03:44 AM.. Reason: Typo |
