service pack questions
right, here's a tricky one:
doing approx 30k a year, and thinking this will be a car I keep and therefore want to take care of mechanically. So, I'm planning to get oil service every 10k. Got to be BMW dealer to maintain warranty (even if its not provable, why risk the warranty for £50 difference each time) I know the £425 service pack is good value, esp at the mileage I will do - as I'll get 2 services and a brake fluid change out of it. I also know that the service pack only works when the indicator gets down to <1000 to go. SO, if I choose to pay for intermediate oil services, will it change the service interval - i.e. not because they reset it, but because others have said it monitors the oil quality somehow, and so new oil = longer to service. Risk is that I'll never ever get to a service interval!! Also, anyone know how long after purchase you have to buy the pack? Thanks in advance! |

You can buy the service pack anytime before the first due service and the service pack starts from the date of registration. So if you brought a 5 year pack and the car is 1 year old, the service pack be valid for 4 years.

Buy the pack with the the car, as they'll apply discount to it at the same rate as the car. Mine worked out about £375. Initially the first service was looking to be due at 16k with mostly town driving but now I've covered alot of motorway miles it's still telling me I have 8k to go (12k done) so I assume it's adaptable?

I do exactly what the OP is thinking of doing. The car reckons it needs a service roughly every 18k miles. I have service pack, and when I booked the car in for a oil change at (roughly) 9.5k, they told me that they would put the service in the on-car service record, but NOT update the "service required on ----" part. All was done as promised.
In addition, I also got them to supply me with a paper service book, and to fill that in and stamp it too. |

thanks Robbiep - to confirm, is your countdown still working as before - my concern was that you have 10 left, get it serviced (but not reset) and some sort of internal diagnostic checks the oil quality and determines it can keep going for another 20k until service!!

However at 3k doubt any entries there yet. You can check on BMW service site if car ncludes service pack. |

Thanks Brigand: got 5 year service plan as part of the deal, plus inside/outside sealing.
So in 3-4 years time you can check in the I-Drive that all services were carried out,on time and at a real Bmw dealer? Impressive if true, still would like a stamped, dated booklet to show prospective buyers. Call me old fashioned! |

The outcome was to techy people it may look dubious why you would have two versions. For non techy types then yes hard copy works. However in both cases, they hard copy must exactly match (down to dates and mileage) the electronic copy or it looks sus. |
