Useless f'ing cameras and parking sensors...

Maybe not completely useless as the cameras are fine on the sides/rear, and the sensors are fine with an upcoming car or wall. But god damn it…they suck at seeing curbs and parking stops at the front of the car. Just gouged the underside of the front of my car because I had no clue a parking stop was there. Would it be too big of a hassle for BMW to put in front end cameras?

That is all…just ranting.

I feel your pain. I suck at judging the distance of my front bumper to the curb. I tend to park too far from it out of fear of destroying the bumper.

I understand your frustration but how many cars come with front end cameras? I don't think that's even available as option in most cars. With low cars like the M3, I always get out of the car to check instead of blindly creeping up until I hear a scrape.

I also find PDC very useful because I didn't have them on my last car. It's one of those things once you have it, it's hard to go back. At least you guys get back up cameras...I don't even have that option on my e93.

I regularly use the bird's eye view (top view) when parking. It helps a lot and you can see the parking block ahead of you while parking.

I was actually using the top view cameras at the time. But it was dark, and the block was short, so I had no idea it was there. What a god awful sound when it scrapes.

My trick is to look at the car next to me as I'm pulling in the spot...most cars are reflective enough that I can see both the front end of my car and the curb, so I can see just how close I'm getting.

Sorry to hear. I'm so used to parking 6 inches to a foot from the parking block since having the e92 m3 for quite a few years. On this car, the top view has helped so far when parking forward, however, the vast majority of the time I reverse into parking spots because the front is so low.

I don't have any cameras at all in my M4. Gotta do it the old fashion way

Sorry to hear that man! Although everyone riding in my car says "wow the rear view cameras and the top view camera makes it super easy to park" I still find myself putting my window down to park my car. I also look into the reflection of my car into the car next to mine to park. I never rely on technology alone

May I kindly suggest learning how to park? I scraped my lip once going up too steep of a hill. You just gotta move on, it's only a car.

When I'm in top view mode and pulling in to a spot it usually shows the curb as a big red line on the screen as I get close to it.

What the fuck are the front side cameras for? I find them useless.... UNLESS those help with the bird's eye view? I do find that useful.

I'm obsessing way, way too much on not crashing him on anything, I actually took out milk cartoons and went to an empty parking lot just to practice. A cop showed up, and had the laugh of his life. Apparently it's not the usual way, but I shut him up by explaining to him that though I do love my car, my ego would be destroyed if I killed him and that I will not risk. Then I told him that I'm a Finn and instead of guessing, I go and practice.

He told me he too had seen the top gear episode. "You guys seem to take this shit seriously"

well, yes, I do.

That does it! Milk cartons it is. Best advice yet!

I am lucky, however, that all the scrapes are underneath the car and not visible unless your head is beneath the bumper. Still...I'm burned up about it...even if it was ultimately my fault!

Agree. A red line appears - but make sure you have close watch on the brake - not much room between red line appearing and making contact with the curb. I would guess about 6 inches.

I bought this to fetch milk faster. I'm getting the horse power up, because I calculated that if it was 30C every day, and if I bought 4 gallons of milk per day it would get 2 degrees warmer if I was to drive through all the school zones on my way back going 5 miles under the speed limit the whole 10 km trip. I would save the money spent on dinan in a hundred or so years by going faster to prevent the fridge having to cool off the milk again.

I have a milk problem. After just drinking a half of a gallon of my precious white gold, I can admit it.

The cartoons also rock. I taught my neighbor how to parallel park with only 15 cans, and one of them stayed in tact. To me, crashing my car would likely be less painful than seeing my favorite drink on the pavement.

Use empty cartons. Or fill them with water. No milk can be spared to help out any car geek to park right.

Sadly, I'm almost serious.

Side view cameras work for front kerbs if you use the yellow lines which show where front of car is. Also useful in my garage which has an awkward chimney part way down, stuck strip of reflective tape on wall and am perfectly parked when line on camera aligns with it.

when parking just use a point of reference , for me the handle of my door works (inside handle), when approaching a wall or a parking block I will try to match them with the handle and that will allow me to park in a safe distance always , its a trial and error the first couple of times, but so far so good
