iPhone 5 & Lightening Cable

I thought that you could just use a lightening cable with an iPhone 5, without the need for a Y-Cable, or am I wrong with that?

When I plug the cable in, and connect it to my phone, it asks if I trust the computer, so I select yes. In the Media menu on iDrive, the USB selection is greyed out, and says "not connected".

I'm obviously doing something wrong, and no doubt it's really simple.

Help...

You need enhanced bluetoot (ebt) option to use the Apple cables to transfer music, they should work just for charging. This was the case a year or so back, options might of changed since I brought my car.

If you have ebt, are you using an official cable.

Teaston, I have Pro Nav (no EBT) on my new car, and I can't play music using my iPhone 5 lead in the USB in the armrest. It charges the phone fine and the car sees the phone plugged in but I can't access the music to play.

Our 2012 car (which has pro nav and EBT as it was standard then) plays fine.

Do I need this Y cable??

I think we should start a nationwide programme of coding EBT - it's a disgrace this was removed from standard spec and it's one of the features I use most but I had to pay for it!

Here's what I see under the boot floor, but can't see how to get under that:-

In your picture the top half will lift up, the combox is located on the left.

Do I need to take the plastic bits out first? If so, any tips on how to remove?

I tried to lift the U shaped plastic on the right, and it just lifts the flooring, without opening the section.

On the F31, the grey floor is actually two parts. The top half is clipped (just like a cornflakes box!), into the lower half.

As you say it's a new car and has pro nav it should definitely work with the lightning cable! You have the NBT pro nav right?
