Summer Wheel Storage
Hi guys,
Just waiting to get my 330 delivered hopefully beginning of December and have been looking around to get a decent set of winter wheel/tyres. From what I can gather Leebman24 is the way to go at the moment (conversion € -> £ = 1.27). My question is mainly how you guys store the summer wheels (and obviously the winter wheels next year). I've been looking around at some tyre stands but opinions are very wide spread as some think it's not strong enough. Most stands cover wheels up to 225 but I'm assuming my 330 will come 225/255. Any other great ideas...? |

Stacked on top of each other in the garage with spare carpet underlay between each wheel and the floor. Covered up with blankets no issues ever.

I thought the BMW local dealers offer a service also at a cost!

They do but then I have a garage attached to my house which doubles as my workshop. Plenty of space to store the wheels why waste money, better spent on mods

Stored in my garage in wheel bags on top of an old and very large dining table.
Not stacked. Chained to the wall... Check your home insurance...

Stacked in the garage for me with thick card between them. Been a few years now and no issues.

I use the above tyre tree with my 18" 225/45 fronts and 255/40 rears. Holds well, no issues so far. Occasionally lifting off a wheel will pop one of the arms off the tree, but they slot in easily so not an issue. |

That is a pretty cool device, I might get my mate blacksmith to make me some stud brackets and just bolt them to the wall will help keep them off the floor . Something to plan for when rest of the project on house is done. That Tree looks good but knowing my luck I can see it taking a fall when I walk into it

My local BMW Main Dealer stores my summer tyres for £60.00.
For the wheel changeover their usual charge is £60.0, but this was waived. Presumably, because I am a regular customer. When I bought the winter wheels, for the first year, storage and wheel changeover was FOC. All part of the deal. As I have no room in my garage, its quite a good arrangement. |

[QUOTE=Hprice1099;16934570]When I contacted my local dealer, I was told if I wanted to use there storage for a nominal fee I'd have to source my Tyers from there. At a huge mark up.
I cannot now recall what I paid last year for the alloy wheels and tyres, Dunlop SP Winter Sport 4D 225/50 R17, from BMW. They were not unduly expensive considering they were from BMW and the free fitting & storage for the first year. I certainly did not think that they had included a huge mark-up. As in all things you get what you pay for. I can recall that the 18" wheels & tyres were a lot more expensive and in any case not so good in the winter as smaller diameter wheels. i.e 17" or 16" Three or four years ago on an E90 I bought a set from Germany, I believe from Utyres(?) 16" with steel wheels, Micheline tyres. Very practical and absolutely superb on snow & ice. The only limitations on snow was the depth, particularly with the lower ground clearance on an M-Sport. Due to the M-Sport brakes cannot now fit 16" hence the 17". Steel wheels with wheel covers? Not too bad! In the winter I'm much for practicality rather than looks! |
