Another 335d with ACS springs :)
Well thanks to Lorcan and Menzies BMW in Stirling I had some ACS springs fitted to my 335d yesterday, so I thought I'd share my first impressions...
Despite not yet having chance to run it down my favourite stretch of road I've still done 200 miles since they were fitted, including 80 today with my wife and 4 month old daughter in the car, so have had a good chance to weigh up the difference they have made. My conclusion for anyone else weighing up getting them done is to bite the bullet - there is no downside. I was prepared for the ride being a bit firmer - to my mind it isn't - if anything the ride seems better than before! Speed bumps don't result in the previous bunny hop at the rear when the dampers are in comfort mode and even on the straights the ride seems better controlled. In terms of the upside there is significantly less roll through the corners or around roundabouts. That 'loose' sensation the car had previously has gone, with much improved turn-in. The car previously had a tendency to lurch on swift direction changes and that now seems to have gone, whilst I would also say there is more feel to the steering. So generally just a lot more fun to drive Very happy - now just have to resist any temptation to go for the ACS engine tune... Last edited by Cootie; 11-06-2014 at 01:45 PM.. |

For those wondering about insurance, I'll just throw this in:
- My current insurer (John Lewis) wanted to know how much the ride height would be changed. They then quoted me an additional £16/year. - I'm about to buy a old Z4 as a weekend car () and so needed a multi-car policy which JL don't offer, so I went to eSure. They will allow ride reduction up to 30mm without charge! The Z4 is coming in at £180/yr and the F31 at £340 (incl legal prot). |
