More POWER!!!....Car booked in to DMS!

Having now sold the Z4 and wife has her Mini, I couldn't resist the temptation of some more power and torque!

Being just too tight to fork out for the ACS ECU (sorry Lorcan!) I was all set for the Superchips option. But phoned DMS on the off chance that they were ready to go with theirs. Very informative and interesting chat with Tony, who said they were now ready to start doing customer cars... the ability to do a proper remap on the engine software and tailor a little to one's preferred driving characteristics swayed me. Then I cashed in some banked brownie points with the wife and booked it in today!

Car is getting done next week and they are kindly providing me with a car to use in the mean time, as the work will take 3 days.

DMS have their own dyno so that shouldn't be a problem.

I've never had a car dynoed before, but did ask them if they would be doing it. If they do and I can get a copy then will be happy to share.

Yeah, but...they have a vested interest in there being more power.

Can't say I'm that fussed. They are talking about potentially 380bhp but I'm more interested in drivability, so linear response, improved throttle response, more interested in the fullness of the torque curve than the peak etc.
And I don't want to go much over 700NM anyway.

They're promising that the re-map can't be overwritten, correct?

Presumably this would mean no more BMW warranty on engine and drivetrain? I assume that DMS won't offer any cover?

They said that should it happen then they will reinstall. It won't take as long to deal with encryption in further remaps.
My car will only be serviced where I'm sure that they won't be doing anything as stupid as interfering with my property!

I think it's fair to say that should any issues be shown to be related to the remap then no they won't be covered, hence why I'm not chasing every last HP or NM. They know I do high mileage and plan to keep the car for many years.

I don't expect it's something for everyone to do, especially those who will trade in after 3 years.

Just do not be around when its being carried out, made me cringe and it was not even my car!!

I hope you get as much out of it as my brother did, its a different car he says even the fuel economy is better.

Its a bit of an Aladdins cave there but once you talk to the tec guys you will be at ease, they are a little geeky in a good way.

Look forward to your review.

Rather impressed with this response I have to say. Given you're a regular and helpful contributor with a business interest, seeing one of the chaps go off and shag someone else I'd have been a bit miffed in your shoes! 10/10 for professionalism. God I hope this doesn't sound sarky - not meant to!

Anyway looking forward to the outcome Tengo - did you say Three Hundred and Eighty? Bloody nora.

Good luck Tengocity.

I was quite impatient as the only option on the 320d F31 was ACS, Superchips or Steinbaur or who are very very similar to the ACS unit but a third of the cost.

I will sell the Steinbaur unit when the car goes and 'maybe' the ACS springs which makes it flexible.

You will certainly enjoy the extra mid range wallop. Great for flexible overtakes or in gera acceleration.

Wish I had waited for a 330 or 335d but am still happy with the overall package.

They did a 640d which was close to 380 they said.

Be looking forward to seeing the results.
Should make it a fast car and in theory the highest output of all of the available power upgrades at present for the 35d engine (including the Alpina D3 which we know is very nearly as quick as an M3).

Yes, in theory I suppose. Anything 350+ is fine to me. More excited about the idea that they can make the throttle response a bit crisper in Comfort mode and just generally a bit more responsive without needing to go in to Sport modes.
That's what I loved about driving Guy's car with the ACS ECU.

Knew you wouldn't last Terry Once you've had it done, will give you a shout when I'm up Pinewood way and we can compare!

I knew I wouldn't either, just needed to wait for certain things to happen, and it just happens they coincide with DMS finally offering the remaps commercially!

Yes, I did think about this, and wondered if we need to find a day where we can get together with the VBOX and whatever airfield/private road you may be able to get access too?
