HomeLink: any way to retrofit this?

No way I'm paying $4000 just to get a garage door opener, but it sure is handy having it - heck, even our 10 year old Honda has it.

If the whole thing is contained in the rearview mirror, could I just buy that and plop it in place? Or did they get all "creative" and tie it into some electronics elsewhere in the car?

My last Toyota did not have it so I just bought a new mirror that did and installed it. It was really easy using all the same wires.

Cool - excellent, thanks all. I presume that an aftermarket mirror doesn't screw up the windshield rain sensor in any way?
