Factory oil fill in a 435i?
As topic states...what brand/weight engine oil does BMW use from the factory? Indicator came on last night to add oil and I'd like to make sure I buy the same oil as already is in there.
Yes, I know the dealership will top it off for free. Don't care. Thanks |

Well, have you broken it in yet? If so give it an oil change. I did that right after break-in, felt good ;-)

I have used all kinds of shit. As long as its sythetic and has no build up material, its G2G. I added a QT 6 times prior to my first service at just over 13k miles. Im pretty sure I used 5 different brands, but the product was virtually the same.

No one on this board knows what the factory fill is. Why would we?
The service fill provided by the dealers for the f30, and most other recent model BMW gassers, is the BMW High Performance 5w30 synthetic, which you could get at any BMW dealer. If that's not readily available to you, look for a 5w30 or 5w40 synthetic that bears the legend BMW Approved LL01 on the back of the bottle. This is usually listed under the various oem approvals. Probably the most readily available oil in that category is Mobil 1 EP 0w40 which is sold just about everywhere (don't confuse it with Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 which is a diesel oil). PS: You don't need to drain the oil earlier than what the factory calls for (one yr/10k mi).

Anyone else know exactly what brand/weight oil is used in these cars from the factory? The owners manual does not indicate specifically. |

Fuchs has been kicked around as a likely candidate. They're big into factory fills, but nobody really knows and BMW doesn't publish that information.
Based off UOA's I've seen over the years Xw30 is the weight for sure. Use BMW branded dealer oil (Castrol/Ashland) or any 0/5w30/40 that is LL01 certified. Last edited by F32Fleet; 10-24-2014 at 07:21 AM.. |

In recent years Castrol has been the supplier for BMW's oil. Since the car is new, you can go to the dealer and they will top off all the fluids free, included in your warranty.
I have been running Total Quartz INEO MC3 for couple of years. Meets all of BMW specs. |
