New to me 2011 328 xi, questions
Hi,
Proud to say I have just picked up my CPO 328 xi with 41k miles on, really happy with the car so far, so much nicer than the A4 2.0T that I traded it in for, no more sitting at traffic light listening to the diesel lick clatter from the HPFP. I have 1 issue with the car that I was looking for some guidance on, the car has an oscillating drone on the highway between 50- 60mph, the car is completely standard, and has nearly new Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season tires fitted. The noise isn’t engine related as changing gear/engine speed makes no difference, nor does easing on and off the gas. Feels like it is chassis/tire related, any experience of this?, will an alignment fix it? Thanks in advance |

are the tires feathering or choppy? that will cause the noise you describe. easiest way to tell is look for any uneven wear on the tires. run your hand across the tread and check to see if its smooth.

Congrats on your new car. I just bought a CPO '11 328xi as well with just over 7300 miles on it. Not noticing any issues at any speed.
My first thought is to check the tires. Upon test driving an Acura Legend many years ago, I noticed something similar to what you describe. When I got out to look at the wheels, every single tire was a different brand. They put 4 new tires on it and problem solved. |

So just to close this one out, I took it to the dealer for some other minor warranty work.
Whilst there I had them do an alignment and balance, they found the front right wheel had slight damamge, this has been repaired, the alignment was pretty much spot on and balanced. Car seems to drive fine now and no oscilating noise, so pretty sure it was down to a bent rim. |
