Brake Inquiry

So it's been very clear that purchasing drilled rotors may be dangerous (depending on the quality) because of the possible micro fracturing that can occur. And slotted rotors offer the "cleaning" effect when braking but will be louder than OEM rotors.

Can people chime in on dimpled rotors? Whats your experience been performance and noise wise. I am looking to purchase dimpled and slotted rotors and just want to hear from anyone who has had first hand experience.

I drive the car 4-5 days out of the week. And do push it in a straight line and the corners occasionally but it is by no means a track car.

Slotted, dimpled or drilled rotors on a street car are essentially all for show; they don't really affect performance in any way. In fact, since the swept area goes down, the heat rejection goes down a bit resulting in a bit more fade (in general).

IIRC, our BMWs have a system that monitors wetness and intermittently touches the pads to the rotors to clear them of water. Which is why rotor modifications such as slotted and drilled exist.

A good replacement if you want better looks would be the ECS Tuning Geomet rotors. Mine were slotted only and most importantly they didn't rust when they got wet.

Good to know. What would you say the difference in noise is if any?

Personally I didn't notice any noise difference.

I was just happy that all thruout the winter my rotors never looked rusty.

Great! What type of pads are you running?

I got the stoptech stage II sports brake kit installed yesterday. Only paid $400 for 4 slotted rotors, F&R stainless steel brake lines and F&R performance pads. I love the difference it made compared to OEM. I didn't install the brake lines because fluid is still good. But for sure way better than OEM pads/rotors. It has that stiffness feeling to it.

Damn, sounds like a great deal. Where did you get that package from?
