Turbo Sound

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question. I recently had my old engine (109,000 km) swapped to a "newer" engine with (60,000 km) due to a timing failure. Anyway I've noticed that I can hear the turbos spool from the the inside even under fairly modest acceleration. Don't get me wrong I love the sound of turbos spooling, but I didn't notice spooling sound with my other engine. Maybe my old engine had to much other noise from the worn valve train that it masked it turbo sound. Is it normal to hear the turbos on a stock engine from the inside of the car? Again sorry for the n00b question.

Not really, i know once i installed downpipes, or aftermarket intake you can really hear them, but stock i didn't really hear any whistle.

Might be a loose pipe, or some kind of intake/exhaust leak. Does it seem to be running perfect? Or some hesitation?

As stated above, intakes and/or exhaust will make it easier to hear them. But yes it is possible, boost leak test, shaft play test may help you narrow down.

Could be a small leak or something if it's much louder than before. If you're truly concerned Id bring it back to whoever did the replacement before you dig too deep into the issue yourself.

Thanks for the replies. The engine seems to run fine. So maybe it's not a big deal.

Swapping engines as in N54 for N55 (highly unlikely of course) or the same engine? or....

The N55 can produce a blow off effect of sorts at times, as it has some sort of atmospheric blow off valve thingy that I don't know the technical name for that the N54 lacked.

+1 I like that.

I have an N55 so it's a different story, but I hear my turbo spool from the inside. If the a/c and radio are off I can hear it pretty clearly. I doubt anything is wrong with your car.

I hear my turbos spool but with windows down and WOT, are you hearing them under normal/light acceleration?

Yes I do. It's not loud but I can hear the spooling under moderate acceleration.

Post audio/video of said sound?

I've had a louder turbo sound before, but it turned out to be a diverter valve return that I had forgot to lock back down--charge pipe's rear diverter valve return hose wasn't connected.
