Trade up to 335i?

So I have a 07 328i, with almost 90k. I've replaced practically everything on the car. I also have a 08 mustang gt -4.6L V8. It's a 14 to 13.8 second car in the 1/4 mile.

Anyways, I'm thinking of upgrading to a 335i, since it's slightly faster than my mustang and identical to my 328i, which I like, just not having to replace a new part every month. No warranty.

I don't have a family or kids, but do need the car to haul stuff occasionally.

Would it be a good idea to trade both of my cars for an 11 335i? Or should I get another brands car like MB E350, Audi, etc.

Yes.

Just remember eventually the 335 is going to be at the same mileage as the 328 and there is more that can need to be replaced on a 335, so I wouldn't necessarily do it in the interest of saving money on maintenance costs, I would do it if you just want a 335.

really not enough info here but...

advantage of keeping the 328i (and why I've decided to keep mine):

you are at or near the bottom of the depreciation curve. not as much for a later model 335i.

it sounds like you've made a reasonable investment for the car for it to be reliable for the next 90k.

the 335i will likely have higher insurance costs, year after year, relative to just the 328i.

you will pay sales tax on at least the difference between the 335i and a trade, or the entire amount of the 335i sales price, depending on your state. Instant 100% depreciation on that sales tax, probably enough money to cover your future repairs on the 328i.

why not just sell the mustang and enjoy your well rounded 328i?

I don't think it's a good idea. There is not enough of a difference between the 328i and the 335i to justify the financial hit you will probably take. The 335i is faster, but the 328i can be more engaging to drive because you get to rev the engine out more. With the 335i, you tap the gas and are already above the speed limit. With the 328i, you get to hear that beautiful NA inline 6 rev for a while.
