Anyone know what this bolt for the microfilter might be called?
I can't find it for the life of me in any hardware store, although to be fair I have not checked Pep Boys or AutoZone for it. It could have been an M4 automotive bolt if it was machine threaded, but alas, it is not- it only has an "NA" on the head.
I'm sure I could ask the dealer as well. In any event, it's one of the six screws that hold down the micro filter cover - one seems to have mysteriously gone missing after the Vanos work that was done yesterday...hmmmm... |

The plastic hole might've gotten stripped and the mechanic may have just threw the bolt away, I had 2 strip on me in the past few months. I just bought some slightly bigger screws from the hardware store and threaded them in by hand it's good as new.

Just ask for the self tapping screw for the micro filter housing. If you were local, I would have given you a set. BTW, nice smooth hands you got there! :P

I call that one "bolt I've dropped into the engine bay a few times".

LOL…white collar guy… I run into these "missing" screws, nuts etc…on these cars. It seems as though the service gets done and all of a sudden some clip is broken or a screw is missing. Today, I discovered a broken clip on the rectangular plastic piece that holds wires located in front of the engine cowling and a missing screw Like you, OP….and on my last 335i I was missing 2 metric hex scores that held on the engine cover…damn techs don't care to keep the stuff from breaking or getting lost! |
