WTH is going on here??

I installed my VRSF CP today. In order to do the install you have to remove the air box and some other choice pieces leaving you with a nice view down to the under tray. CHek out the pics…what a wreck/mess. ANyone have any idea what this stuff is?

It's a Norther car (OH) so there is pitting on some of the metal from salt but the real issue is black substance all over everything…it's pretty difficult to wipe off and its all over the place.

Last week I had the intake valves cleaned. The shop chooses to use cleaner and a brush vs the walnut blasting so maybe this is a result of the cleaner and carbon getting all over the place. Any thoughts?

Also, in two of the pics there is a price of metal that is rusted. The pics of the piece that have an "eye" on it…anyone know what it is?

Last but not least, a picture of my beast…just added the M3 trunk lip…love it!

If that was my car, and they splattered all that black crap all over - I would be pretty jacked

Not sure if it was from the shop…the shop is solid: very reasonable and honest. I bought the car from a BMW dealership in OH and it was always maintained at a dealer (it had the maintenance package when I bought it)…given this, I'm not sure.

It doesn't really matter what it is but to get it cleaned off and keep an eye out to see if it returns.....sorry my comment was meaning to be more tongue and cheek than crass.

Yep, looks like they use a solvent to break down the carbon, brush it and flush it out and get it all over the place, solvent evaporates and what is left is dried carbon, just use some degreaser or simple green on it let it sit for a few minutes and rinse - should clean right up.

The rusty thing I think is the end of the HPFP.

Dawn dish soap. Warm water and a rag. Let it soak and wash it off.
Works wonders on most stuff and wont harm anything on your engine bay.

I wouldn't EVER pressure wash any part of your engine or near your engine.

Just pressure washed mine last weekend, nothing to worry about, used a washer that maxed out at 1500 psi running 3 gallons per minute with a 15° tip. Your motor is not going to melt if it gets wet nor the electronics. Been doing this for years with all my vehicles, none worse for the wear.
