New owner, 07 Crimson Red 335i

Ok, so im jumping off my other thread since the title doesnt really apply anymore. I was the one mentioning trading my Z06 for a 335i.Well I traded in my diesel truck instead and now am keeping my Z06 as well.

With that said, I want to introduce myself. I am Ronnie. I am new to BMW's, but not to cars at all. I am a DIY mechanic and can do most things on my own unless its way beyond my knowledge or tools within my reach.

So, for my info. I have a 07 335i that just turned 99k while driving yesterday. Drives perfect (to my knowledge)..everything seems to work as should...except my no turn signal sound.

Car has muffler delete / tee mod and that Is all I know or at least think is done.

I bought a 3yr 100k warranty so I should be covered for the major stuff until almost 200k miles.

So, can someone point me to a thread for 335i's that go over the basics such as when you do what maintenance, free mods? must have DIY's, what oil change intervals and oil is good to use, etc etc etc.

Help me gain my knowledge on my great new vehicle!!

Be cautious of road trips and such until you've had failed items repaired such as the HPFP and water pump and such. Id hate to see another bimmer towed.

I just hated seeing mine towed after a dead water pump is all. But go out and put her to good use. Make sure and exercise that redline daily.

Anyways, see below. By the way I am a member there as well

But wait there's more!!! To 355speed's point, there is an E90 Post DIY as well..

Hey Ronnie, welcome! Well the answer to what I can, we have a DIY subforum with everything you could need for guides and a maintenance one specifically for your other questions! To be honest no one has any idea about whats best for oil and how often as you will see, when everyone and their grandmother disagree. Depends on your driving style. If you push it to the limit with high engine temps, all the time, many would suggest non-oem oil. You gotta find what works best for you and maybe send in for a blackstone oil analysis to see how your oil holds up. I personally use motul 0w-40 and change it ever 8k on my 100k mile 07 335 and it worked perfect for me. As for mods, i dont know of any free ones except for the golf tee mod, but with this platform gobs of power are available for fairly cheap. Pushing 420 hp/tq for about 1500 bucks in mods collectively. Good luck on your travels! This board will be your bestfriend for info as it has mine! Just keep searching and reading

Welcome Ronnie! Congrats on your 335i!
I have some cheap DIYs on my YouTube that may help you, although I'm not sure what cosmetic mods you have already.

Good for you, keep driving, and enjoy it.
If it needs a tow, so be it. You will be saving since you are DIYing.

Also,
Here are my suggestions.
1. Go to dealer to get a complete history of what work has been done. This is a starting point to make sure any recall items and main items have been addressed.
And what part numbers were installed.

2. Make sure you have a Walnut blast done on your intake Ports recently....,this is a Must... Remember no additive will clean your intake ports on a DI engine.
Typical periods for this is every 50k ish.

3. Realoem.com is and this forum is your friend for looking up part numbers and schematics on your car. All you need is the last 7 of your VIN.

4. As for Waterpump and TStat.
Look up where this is located on your car.
Take the plastic shield under your car off and take a picture of your water pump.... Let's us see it.
Basically if it has rubber grommets on the mounting bolts, then it is an original and will fail anytime.... If your hear your Rad fan... Spinning too loud... It's time.

6. Look for Oil leaks.... Small or big.
OFH Gasket.
Valve Cover Gasket.
Oil Pan.

7. After a fresh Oil change, how many K before you need to add a Quart?.... Note this or log it... Remember it.

Crimson is an odd color, in a good way.

07 has to be careful of that subframe damage which is not covered under any warranty and quite costly to take care of. Again, it would be foolish to have that cause you not to drive it. But for those in the market, avoid the production months that have the known defect (I have it)....

prolly should check the belt condition but the seller would have replaced it anyway so might not tell anything....

Given that you are at 99K miles, I'd strongly suggest you hie over to a BMW store and determine whether the HPFP and turbo wastegate fixes have been applied to your car.

Most likely they have, but you need to know because BMW's free coverage for the HPFP expires at 100K miles, IIRC. I could be wrong...it might be 110K or 120K, but you should check now before it's too late. That repair is several thousand dollars if you have to pay for it yourself.

I'm pretty sure you've already passed the warranty coverage period for the turbo wastegate. IIRC, it ends at 82K or 84K miles. It too is something on the order of $5K to have fixed.

There's also a factory recall on something having to do with a battery or battery cable. I don't know the expiration on that one.

All of the critical information can be found on BMW's website or by checking the government's recall information. It's on B-post too, but you'll need to use the search feature to find it. I know the HPFP thing is a sticky you will find here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=2 . You should read the other stickies too.

All the best.

I have not done that yet.

Still will the steptronic with paddles even allow to redline?

Thanks,
I come from LStech forums, and Supraforums and were both worlds of knowledge for the vehicles I have and had.

For oil...I just asked that because I also researched M3's and saw they took their one and only 10w60 that is special purchase at anywhere that is not an auto parts store.

i have the service records...I posted them up in my other thread titled z06 owner....belt thing was something that had been replaced not long ago.

Do you know the productions months with known defects? Mine in the door frame shows 07/07 for my production.
