I have an unlocked iphone...so far so good.

The installer package that comes with the unlock brings about many cool toys/features e.g. Nintendo games port, pedometer, accelerometer, e-book reader, internet radio, the list goes on and on. After unlocking, you can customize your iphone to the hills.

What you will miss out is the updates. Updating your iphone automatically reverts the phone back to its original state and may screw up your phone. If you're patient, however, unlocks for the subsequent, firmware versions follow quite closely.

I've had my phone unlocked twice. The first time I got it, it was a recent manufacture so it had the 1.1.1 software. I had it downgraded to 1.0 and unlocked. Shortly after the 1.1 hit the streets, the unlock for that came out so I upgraded the firmware and got that unlocked too. The 2nd unlock/update brought about the itunes wifi feature as well as the double tap shortcut menu button as well as less prone to crashes. Now I'm waiting to see if an unlock is available for the new firmware just to keep with the times. The phone is awesome as it is...

I say do get it.

I've just finished unlocking a US iPhone running the latest Apple Firmware 1.1.1.2 ?

Everything now works fine, what you cannot do on these versions though is unlock them to use a different SIM to one that they are programed to. So if you get one which is for O2, you can unlock it (unlocking means getting around the iTunes Activation which requires you to join an O2 Contract) and then use an O2 Pay As You Go SIM card.

I am not sure if you can't just get one from O2 on Pay As You Go anyway, but eBay is probably cheaper.

I wouldnt worry about the unlocking process to much, most problems can be fixed by a full iPhone Factory Reset if you screw it up big time.

So long as you are "comfortable" using a computer, you should be fine.

If anyone is interested, you can work around the other SIM card issue by purchasing a "Ultrasim" which is basically a SIM card you mount your own SIM card on that emulates a O2 or Cingular / AT&T SIM card.

Any questions, just ask and I will try to help.

can i put a 02 PAYG sim in my i phone NO it wont work as the sim supplied is matched to the phone ie locked now that is boll---- as i have tried a 02 sim that isnt paired to the phone and works 100% my guess is it just has t be a 02 sim .

I also asked about there add ons to PAYG phones they do a unlimited web access for £7.50 per month .I exp i was wanting web access all the answers were yes yes ,Then i said so if i put this payg sim with web access in my i phone i would have all the options fully working ,Ahh ill go and ask was her reply .All of a sudden im back to being told I phone will only work with the sim supplied with the phone ??????????????????? ahhhhh.so f--- it i have bought one and will try it at the weekend when it arrives ,but i am confident it will be fine

I use Orange on my unlocked I-phone - works fine!

(only thing it does not like is the Orange 'method' of turning on and off the answer machine 'new message' indicator. - Orange normally send a signal to turn off the answer machine symbol only once you have deleted/saved the message after listening to it. My symbol is stuck on until I get another message....then it disappears.....bit annoying but otherwise is fine on Orange!)

I am about to sell my old SPV M3100 PDA phone ebay. It is locked to Orange and I was going to put a PAYG Orange SIM in the box, will this work???

I also would love an iPhone, but will wait until they become much less expensive!
