Hopefully never. Looks worse than i8 to me, and completely misses the point. Even this looks better: http://jalopnik.com/the-toyota-supra...bmw-1603499168 Btw normally I'd have said a bigger engine in the i8 was a great idea, but not in this case. Because I feel the i8 is easily quick enough, it would add weight (also changing the 50:50 balance), and I appreciate its economy. I think the i engineers got it so very right with their initial release of the i8. Slightly wider front wheels is perhaps the only change I would have liked. |

Agreed 100%.
In my humble opinion, M will eventually be making hybrids for max performance. The i8 is the future. Not the other way around. Don't forget that i8 was developed by BMW top engineers, including those from M division. Somewhere in the depths of the interwebs, a photo was posted of some obscure parts on the i8 that have an M stamp on them. BMW did exactly what they wanted with this car, they gave it a dual personality like no other car has this side of a Porsche 918. If the P1, 918, or The TheFerrari are of any indication, it's a formula for extreme performance that you can't get with an ICE power plant alone. It will be more performance, less efficiency oriented than the i8, of course. BMW won't mess with the i8 but the tech and performance implications are there for M to implement into a newly developed vehicle (not an M i8) that will blow our socks off. #thefutureisexciting |

I agree of course that the i technology will filter down into the rest of the range, starting with hybrid tech for the M cars, for performance alone. Then the lightweight build tech will filter down too.
But as for blowing our socks off, I am not so sure. The i3 and i8 did that for me, each in their own way I can't see any normal BMW achieving that for me. A faster M car will still be relatively slow to me, compared to other traditionally powered and built cars. |

You're not the normal BMW customer though. I should have clarified, blow our socks off more than any current M car can do, in terms of performance.

Fair comment Either way, the changes will greatly improve BMW's normal range, which is a good thing, as other manufacturers will have to follow suit. Better cars for all |
