Navdy...HUD
Any considering buying this? http://www.digitaltrends.com/cell-ph...eview/#!bAJa4P
It's an aftermarket HUD option. since our 2er's don't offer that option, I'm considering it. Any thoughts. |

Their site says they're shipping early 2015. I just looked @ the site and I'm not clear on something - I understand that the unit will project things like speed and range by using data from the ODB II port, and that's great along with all the text/email/phone stuff it'll be able to do, BUT - as far as navigation goes, it looks like what would be displayed is turn by turn directions from your phone (if you use your phone for that), and not directions from the BMW navigation system. Am I right about that? I suppose if I knew more about what flows through the ODB II port, I wouldn't have to ask, so my apologies if this sounds a bit clueless.

The OBD will send stuff relating to the car's mechanics. Engine speed, boost, temperatures, etc, as well as it's original function: Diagnostic Codes. Navigation will not be sent through the OBD.

Ok, I'm going to be controversial.
The idea of HUD is cool. Very Very Cool. This box lumped on top of the dash looks shite. Last edited by XxDanoxX; 10-07-2014 at 04:55 AM.. |

This is actually really cool but with bluetooth built into the car and my Garmin GPS I'm not sure I want to get this right now although it does offer a lot of features and I like the fact that it's on the dash.
I guess I will wait a bit longer and once it's released in February I might look into it more. |

Now that the Navdy has been out for a couple of weeks, anyone install one in their 2 series? I'm interested to hear thoughts on how it looks on the dash, if it's more distraction than help, etc. It appears they're shipping for $799 at the moment. Thanks.

On another note, 799$ is kinda expensive tbh for a 5 inch screen... |

It connects to OBD port for both data and power. Then it pairs with your phone that's running an app. The base unit also has a GPS receiver and antenna. Engadget has a review of the device here: https://www.engadget.com/2016/10/25/...ds-up-display/

Interested in seeing how this looks on the 2 series dash. I've been looking for some pics and videos and in some vehicles it blends in pretty well while others make it look like quite the eyesore.
If anyone ends up getting one of these please post some pics! |

After watching some reviews idk that it's worth the $800. If I'm going to pay that much I'd rather end up with something that's more integrated like the OEM version in the F30. Otherwise, I could just put less money into an a/v box and mirror my phone on the screen in the dash. |

Just got alerted to pre-orders for a HUD from Anker, they make a lot of electronics gizmos, looks like they're expanding: https://www.goroav.com
It appears to be self-contained, and you can even get one with 4G so you don't rely on your phone for connection. The thing I didn't like about Navdy is that it used its own apps, maps, etc, and required a separate search from what you did on the phone. This Roav device looks to do the same, but it's still in pre-order phase. At 40% off might be interesting to look at it, they say shipping in Spring/Summer of 2017... |
