Competition is a good thing which drives car companies like BMW to continuously raise the bar.
I am guilty, narrow minded I am, after owning a FX45 for 3 years, 3 months ok, 33 months of hate from day to day till the end of the lease, I won't make the same mistake again, thank you.

I agree with you, but one thing - the tranny on the new G is much better than the old one. My '03 sedan is a MM and the tranny is terrible - it's so easy to mess up when up or downshifting it's not even worth using. The new one is much, much better - way more akin to the e92 tranny; not quite as good, but definitely passable.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your Infiniti FX45, because I had a loaded '03 FX35 (prem, sport, tech packages) for 3 years with no problems whatsoever (except for some squeaky brakes at the beginning, which Infiniti rectified under warranty with new brake pads -- twice!)...it was a great car! In addition, I drove an '04 G35 Sedan until it was totaled in 4/05 (Thank G-d I came out without a scratch); that's when I started driving my wife's FX and she got a Honda Pilot! I just ended my lease on the FX35 and got the BMW 335i.

Infiniti did improve the G35's tranny with the MY '04.5 G35 (which is what I had), but it still had a major ManuMatic upshift delay (~ 1/2 sec. delay) and it banged into gear. When I test drove the '07 G35, I felt the same exact issues with the tranny, and other ppl have mentioned that although Infiniti has 80% new engine parts in the '07 G35, unfortunately they didn't update the tranny.

I came from 2001 330ci that i drove for 4 yrs
Now it's FX45 which i'm keeping for another year
Very pleased with this car, no issues, good power and handling dispite being SUV
BTW, it kills 05-06 G35 sedan any day at any speed, and 540 AT cant lose this car, especially on freeway
Winter - no problem either
A lot of nice cool features in the car
I can say though, i miss my bimmer and i'm getting back my coupe, but in TT version this time

335i coupe MT next summer

Weird. I know they updated in '04 with the rev-matching, etc; but even though it's the same tranny in the '07 it felt a lot better to me; much smoother, much more responsive. Oh well, regardless it's not nearly as good as the e92 tranny.

I would NEVER get next to Audi since reliability is sh1t.
Back to BMW. M3/745i/X5 (V8)/5-series reliabilty sucks. So, don't get your hopes up too high since you talk like fan boy. Learn about the competition first and see the Consumer Reports that asks actual owners and take a look at reliability chart

I'll take performance, resale value, and styling over "reliability"

that's all the japanese makers are better at anyways,

I've been stranded once and only once in over 250000 miles in my BMW's

reliability and a cheap price tag are all you've got to brag about

Back to 335i. For performance point of view along with warranty and overall package (unless more room desired) 335i is a clear winner IMO.
don't agree with you on the 5-series. i've had a '95 e34 525i very little problems. finally my tranny went out at 150k miles, and decided to try something new (e90). my dad has a '01 e39 525i, and it runs great. only issue it's had was with the final stage resistor for the hvac. e39 530i was awarded consumer reports' best car ever tested in the past. my friend's dad has an '04 e60 530i that's been running great with no problems.

btw - The downshift rev-matching in the G35 was done starting with the MY '05, and yes, you're right, either way, it doesn't compare with the 335i Auto/Step tranny as it's probably one of the best around.

I like the 335i much better than the new G, but I'll put Nissan's "old school" RB26DETT up against BMW's twin turbo any day of the week. The VQ is another issue entirely.

"Nissan" does not automatically equal "crap".

BMW vs Infiniti

As probably mentioned- there are lots of things you CAN put you finger on, but also a few you can NOT put your finger on- it is, in many ways, the things that fall under the latter category that cost the $9K.
Among the items mentioned- handling, quality, etc- there's a feeling of driving a car chisled out of a piece of billet that I simply can't replicate in any other cars in my price range- G35, et al.

Anyone who hates japanese looking cars. Have you looked at the back/rear of the E92 lately?
for those of you who didnt get it.
The E92's back looks like a 95 Civic coupe's back.

What a truly bizarre post.

My g/f and I saw the Bond film Sun. As we were going back to her place, we are beside a Bentley Continental GT. There are at least 4 of them in her town the we've seen. I gave the guy a thumbs up, and he actually gave me one in return. How does he justify spending north of 170k on a car? Easy. He doesn't have to. Neither do 335 owners. Just as real life goes, there is a pecking order, like it or not.

Nissan/Infiniti, Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura are all trying to compete against BMW/Audi/Merc for a reason. They still think that those German Autos are the benchmark for excellence and elegance. If you want to better your product, you need to compare and/or even exceed your idol. Most, if not all, mags editors compare the G and IS to the 3 series because they know that it is the reigning champion. The same thing that the BMW Z/M is being compared to the Boxster S/Cayman S. You always look ahead not behind. Infiniti doesn't want to be compared with the EVO or STI. They wanted to be compared with the BMW and the like. From that alone, they can say that their product is comparable to the BMW. JMHO.

Infiniti sucks. Seriously I can't compare at all any Japanese cars to German BMW engineering. Even worse being Infiniti is a glorified Nissan. Same with Lexus. No thank you!

Some of the Japanese auto hate in here is downright ignorant. I've obviously chosen to go with BMW this time around, but some of you need to get over your pompous BMW-owning selves. Seriously.

That's one reason that will keep me from buying the new M3. I don't want to be associated as a pompous snob. I like the M3 because it's discrete and out of sight.
