The GT scene for Pcars has gotten so fucking shady these days that a story like this is hardly surprising. Salesmen/dealerships taking thinly-disguised bribes and kickbacks for allocations, cars being used as devices for money laundering, insane markups; it goes on and on at nearly every dealership in the country and when you look at places at rennlist all that stuff is just accepted as "part of the game."

Just feels like the whole thing is set up to collapse sometime very soon.

a bit more

The buyers trusted Sookralli because he worked for Champion Porsche, the top dealership in the country for the luxury sports car.

But it has since been revealed that Sookralli allegedly set up a shell company, wiring their deposits into a secret bank account that has since been emptied out.

Now Champion Porsche is suing Sookralli and claims it was completely unaware of what its marketing VP was doing behind the scenes.

the dealership must be held liable for those payments. The VP is a representative of that dealership. It's like depositing money to a bank teller. you're trusting that the teller is depositing money into your account, not some shell company he/she created.

Exactly. If Champion tries to dodge this, it will kill them. I already respect them less for not just owning this.

Updates seem to be indicating that owner of Champion is trying their very best to make these "victims" whole which I think it is understandable how they need the time to identify these customers who have paid deposits and those are just trying to scam them.

Precisely. He represented the dealership by being a part of its leadership. That said, Porsche N.A. would have at least had influence regarding his standing at the dealership, as well as oversight of the dealership's procedural policies. So I do think there's some shared responsibility.

If a banker takes money from depositors, that individual is not liable for money lost if they bolt -- the bank is. Similarly, a money manager represents his or her firm unless they are in business for themselves; If they bolt with clients' funds, the firm is liable for the funds, not the individual. (Note the use of the word 'liable', which is different from 'responsible'. The bank is liable; the individual is responsible.)

This is fundamentally no different from those scenarios.

Champion Porsche OFFICIAL STATEMENT:

As the Porsche community has learned, Champion Porsche together with approximately 20 valued customers have been defrauded by a former employee who utilized a fictitious entity to divert money customers believed to have been deposits for limited GT special order vehicles. The issue was discovered on September 4th and we have been diligently investigating and dealing with the matter since. We had no records of the fraudulent deals and have been assembling documentation with the assistance of cooperative customers. A civil lawsuit has been filed against the former employee, together with others who appear to have been involved in the fraud. Law enforcement has been contacted and we are fully cooperating with their investigation.

We understand, and share in the outrage that this issue has caused. We are working diligently to investigate and confirm which customers were impacted and fully intend to stand by our customers to assist them. It is our intention to insure that each customer impacted by this matter receives the amount delivered to the fictitious entity under a fraudulent order.

We have enjoyed a stellar reputation for decades. That reputation was earned through our commitment to customer satisfaction. While no one is immune from being the victim of fraud, we will successfully manage this issue by putting customers first and assuring that each customer receives the proceeds that were delivered to the fictitious entity under a fraudulent order.

The "actual owner" died in a swimming accident in Boca in July. Funny how all of a sudden this comes out after the owner isn't around anymore.

Porsche NA/Dealership should refund the monies owned to the individuals affected after their investigation or if they still want to proceed with vehicle purchases, they should be offered discounts for their troubles. In light of all this, the dealerships name is tarnished, therefore, it’s imperative that they get this resolved and not wait for the dealerships lawyers to settle this months down the line. The VP should contact all parties affected, insure them that they'll be taken care of and restore whatever trust is left.

IMHO, the top exec’s at the dealership didn’t know about this scam, though the whole accounting department needs to be grilled. If it does turn out that someone or more individuals in accounting knew about this, several openings will be available and I’ll be happy to join them and leave Uber

I heard he is trying to use the money to secure allocations for the Toyota Supra in hopes to flip them

He read some reviews that the Supra was better than the Cayenne which just happens to be the car industries benchmark for sports cars at an attainable price point.

You mean the Cayman ??
The Porsche Cayenne is an SUV
I would hope the Supra is better than an SUV
