The G01 X3 forum will lose their minds. (People are coding out ASD and exhaust pops and burbles)

Natural burbles are nice, but artificial burbles can be annoying.

I'm not a burbles fan, but so far they have not annoyed me to the point of wanting them tuned out. I do think they are excessive though.

I mean, if it burbled a little when I revved the crap out it and then abruptly lifted the throttle that would be perfectly acceptable, but it burbles all the time no matter how little throttle was applied. That seems fake and stupid.

One of the reasons why we bought my wife's 2011 335is Coupe (being replaced by an 2018 M3 ZCP as soon as the car makes it to the dealer) is the burbles! The bespoke exhaust on that model is one of the best stock BMW exhaust systems I've ever heard.

During our 2011 Euro Delivery we would drive through small German/Austrian/Swiss/French towns with our windows down and back off the throttle. The narrow roads, with walls or buildings right up next to the road, would provide great surfaces to bounce the sound off. The car would just start burbling and burbling. And we would just start laughing and laughing because it sounded so good.

Fast forward to July 2018 and her 2018 M3 ZCP did the same thing. Burble, burble, burble. And we just started laughing and laughing again, just like we did in 2011. Glorious sound!

Enjoy the burble sounds while you can because in your lifetime, electric, or some other alternative fuel source cars, probably autonomous, will make no sound at all. Or it will be a fake sound...

Hate the burbles. It's fake, stupid, and showy for no benefit.

But so are most exhaust mods, a lot of people buy them for the sound, some for performance.
Showy is a big part of the game

I don’t like it at all in my zcp with mpe in sport plus mode.

Way over the top and imo doesn’t sound very good.

Wish I could remove them without a tune. Annoying because sport plus is required to disable rev match. Car drives great otherwise.

And those people like the attention. I do not and thus do not like the burbles - they scream look at me when the M3 needs no help with that - it's plenty showy already.

But I live with them because the motor only drives good in sport plus, and, rev match is off. But if i could easily turn off the burbles on my ZCP they'd already be off. I actually prefer how the car sounds (quiet) with the valve closed but see point above about sport plus. I drive fast and want to slip through traffic without the extra attention.

I too hate the burbles. Its the worst trend in automotive history imo. A few pops here and there after going full throttle is fine but when i'm cruising around town going 20mph and my exhaust is going off like a popcorn machine on steroids it just looks stupid. I already coded off ASD which makes the car so much better. If I could code out the pops I would do it in a heartbeat.

Don't mind them on my ZCP M3 but I do typically toggle to Efficient pulling in to my neighborhood to quiet my car a bit.

Now, my 340i with MPPSK and its M Perf exhaust had the craziest burbles in Sport... gobs more than the ZCP M3.

And then we have Toronto the Good.......

Toronto mayor wants to crack down on too-loud cars

From Driving.ca

Toronto’s mayor wants to use new technologies to hit drivers of excessively noisy cars and motorcycles with steeper fines, a letter he sent to the city’s licensing and standards chief reveals.

The city’s noise bylaws are generally meant to keep the volume of nuisances like construction, barking dogs or loud music in check, but that could change slightly to focus more on vehicles’ exhaust notes after a review of the municipal legislation is completed late 2019, reports the Toronto Star.

“It is my view that over the past year in particular, this has become a much more widespread problem affecting quality of life for residents and visitors alike,” Mayor John Tory’s letter to Tracey Cook, executive director of municipal licensing and standards, is quoted in the newspaper.

“It is disturbing people in their homes, during the day and at night, it is disrupting business and it is having a negative impact on tourists, all in the apparent cause of feeding the egos of inconsiderate people.”

Tory asked Cook to look to cities like Edmonton and London, England – which recently put in place decibel-meter- and red-light-camera-type devices to capture noisy cars and slap them with significant fines, respectively – as examples of the direction in which he wants to take Toronto.

The current bylaw specifically prohibits noise only at times when it is likely to be especially disturbing to residents; local police are largely tasked with dealing with non-compliance, but Tory would instead like to see bylaw officers track down violators instead.
