Thomas, I love the composition and colors, but it looks hand held and soft. I can't see any real EXIF data on Flickr so I can't say why, other than to guess you hand held it or the camera moved slightly. I'd expect crisp details in the buildings even when blown up.

Let me expand. I know that the camera was at least on a post or something to allow for the long exposure, but something moved. It could be too small a tripod, or not locking the mirror up and using remote release, or something like that. If you merely put the camera on a post and tripped the shutter with your finger, then it's amazing, but for the best result you need a heavy tripod, mirror lock up and either remote release or timer delay release.

Thanks Dave. I think that might be the issue.

I put the camera on the railing and that railing happened to be connected to a bridge with heavy foot traffic. It's the one that connects the Aria with the other side.

I'll be sure to buy a heavier tripod in order to get better photos. Thanks!!

Can't believe that I guessed right.

Even with a tripod, traffic on a bridge can thwart your efforts, so you need to be aware that vibrations can transmit through even the sturdiest device.

That model has an incredible eye, even without the ringlight. Great exposure.

Can we see her eyes with a normal setup? She's something else.

cool shot, exposure is spot on...i feel like the negative, defocused space could be cropped a bit more. he's not tight enough inside a defocused space for it to serve as a frame drawing the eye to him, and there's enough negative space in the frame for a proper locked-proportion crop.

Wow, I thought Overton was English origin, but looks like there's a Nordic bloodline running strong there. Looks like it comes from you mother.

Nice family portrait.

Or a lighter one......
In CF it damps vibrations better than the same in aluminum at least with the Manfrotto ones. I have both the 055 pro3 and 055cxpro4 and the CF will damp faster than the heavier one.
