How are the moderators selected?

I never hear from or see Mods interact with members or posts here. But I do notice their Ninja edits and moving of Threads without reason or warning.

Have I missed the "New Dawn of Mods" around here?

From what I understand it's a decision from the community of Mods. They observe and tap you on the shoulder if they think your temperament is measured and fair. I don't believe it's something you apply for.

None of you turkeys who just put up their hand are going to be mods. None. You either have way too many posts on here that spell out exactly why you shouldn't be a mod or you have too little time on here!

There are some mods that do interact here, they just tend to let us do more or less our own thing until it degenerates into something undesirable. mkoesel and Law are two that come in here and post occasionally and I think both are good.

Why do you care about ninja edits to titles and that though...doesn't seem like a big deal. I understand more about your concern re: moving threads, I've had a few moved and I just felt like they weren't going to get noticed in the section they were moved to. Also, I don't go into those sections of the forum as well.

But by far and large, most of my threads stay where I put them, and I think yours do as well.

I've always noticed the most effective mods, demonstrated plenty of regular interaction as members prior to modding. Oh well...

I think some of the language brings gender into the conversation. That's my opinion on why it may have been moved.

Oh that's easy. It was moved because a number of the complaints were from a religious standpoint (didn't want to see that, more particularly, didn't want their children to see that and weren't expecting it during a football game) and that to me is reasonably fair.

And given the religious undertones (because that was I believe most of how the complaints were going) got moved to Politics & RELIGION....there's the link.

I pretty much agree, they're usually pretty good but sometimes they get it wrong. I had that post about the Volvo Lady that used to get me mad, it was here in OT for 5 years and when I updated it, they moved it out of OT and put it under general car discussions. I clearly wasn't discussing Volvo's

Hello folks. I noticed the discussion and thought I'd chime in.

1) I don't think any moderator regularly contributes to the Off Topic area of the site, so if you spend the majority of your time there, you won't have a lot of interaction with moderators.

2) Obnoxious thread titles are typically modified. This can include misleading/incorrect language, superfluous or extraneous text, nonsense, unnecessary capitalization or punctuation, a lack of punctuation, and other similar anomalies. The reason for this is simple - poor thread titles make it difficult for people to navigate the forum, and they also make it more difficult to moderate.

3) In the vast majority of cases, threads are moved with a redirect. However, if there is egregious posting to the improper forum or if a thread is particularly troll-ish and/or post-whoring in nature, sometimes no redirect is left. Most of the time such threads are closed down anyway.

FCC stands for Federal Communications Commission. I'm sure you are aware that its a government agency -> http://www.fcc.gov

That alone does not mean the topic must be political in nature, but it definitely tends to lead the discussion down that path.

But taking a step back, it's certainly worth asking yourself "Why does it matter that this thread was moved to the political forum?" Something to think about for a minute or two.

Now I will say this: I can't remember if I left a redirect for that thread when I moved it, but I probably ought to have. So if I did not, then that's my bad and I apologize.
