yeah what I'm hearing a lot at school these days is when you convert to B&W you lose a lot of dynamic contrast from a DSLR compared with film so you really gotta work those photos a little more than normal.

Not bad, but if you start with RAW, add an S-curve in the RGB, up the contrast a good bit and add a little Luminance, I think you'll be even happier. Try working with RAW a little and you'll be hooked, I suspect.

haha, you missed one of my posts in general photography..

I accidentally shot about 100 pictures in JPEG by accident before realizing.

I've been only using RAW only for probably the last 6+ months and made the mistake of doing a favour for a relative and shot to JPEGs for her, and forgot to switch back...

big D'OH moment for me on my trip

problem has since been fixed, but Lost about 100 shots. Well.... not lost.... but you know what I mean.

Reed, it sounds like something I would do. Except forget to turn on AF or use 1600 ISO in bright sun.

The first thing I always check is that I am shooting in RAW. I've made too many mistakes like that.

It's white balance with me. Anytime I take it off auto, I always forget to set it back. Luckily it's easy enough to fix.
