With the IPC being put under more pressure,Russians and belorussians have now been banned from the paralympic's and Mazepin was simply on borrowed time with what's happening in UKR now.

He was already on contract to end of 2023 so it's a new 5 year contract to be accurate. But yeah, that's a LONG one! Might come back to haunt him if the rbr engines suck in future after 2025 rule changes.

I'm glad Mazepin is out but only because he's in Formula 1 because of his father who is an accomplice in the crime currently being committed in the Ukraine. I would also add because he's not good enough but there have been plenty of pilots that weren't good enough who were only there because money talks. I do feel a little bit of sympathy for him because he probably doesn't want anything to do with what's going on but that's life.

That being said, outside of this case, I don't think Russian and Belorussian athletes should be punished for the crimes of their government. I don't know a single Russian who supports the Kremlin or their leaders and that includes me (Although I naturalized and proudly carry the nationality of American). You'll seldom meet a Russian who will tell you good things about the Soviet Union or the current government in place. They certainly exist but most of them are impoverished older folks living in rural outskirts of the big cities in Russia disconnected from the real world.

As far as Max goes; he deserves it. He's the best driver out there by a huge margin.

It's complicated but the simplest way to describe it would be to imagine that the Soviet Union was a ceramic plate being held in weak frail hands. In 1991 that plate fell on the floor and a couple of people began claiming each piece. Those people are the oligarchs.

Described well here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_oligarch

Wow that's interesting. It's definitely shady when the 'president' of Russia has a palace that reportedly cost $1 billion to build, and has amassed anywhere between 200-300 billion in assets. Just ridiculous.

Exactly and the Russian people have been paying for it since the days of the tsars. Very depressing place to come from.

Just wondering did Formula 1 kick out any American drivers during the Iraq invasion? Just wondering. I’m sure they did. I just didn’t read about it.

I think the only one at the "rough" time was Scott Speed in 2006. He simply got kicked out for being a terrible driver too. Mazepin has both, terrible driver and being Russian.

I for one am glad he's out. He was fucking horrible. Absolutely horrible.

No they didn't because there was NO justification to do so!!!

The United States of American and a coalition of 35 other countries attacked Iraq under a NATO Security Counsel Resolution. This happened because Iraq invaded Kuwait without provocation and dismissed warnings to withdraw. Please have your memory banks examined before posting stupid comments.

Um not really. You’re thinking of the first Gulf war in 1990 brother. I’m talking about 2003. Also there’s no need for you to be insulting. No big deal.

I got you. I thought he was being kicked out more because he was Russian not because he sucked at driving. That’s different. I recall the vast majority of Europe, even our good friends in England were pretty pissed off at us for going into Iraq in 2003. I know for a fact Russia strongly condemned it as well as China. But that’s no surprise.

My bad, but still no comparison between 2003 and the Russian invasion either...Touchy subject, original post lit my fuse

So, in 2003, which driver from The USA should have been fired

Brother you know you don't get any more biased towards the US than me but if you can't see the double standards here I can't help you. I'm sure the Russian people see it. Believe me when I say it's very difficult for me to face it. I was in the first gulf war in 1990. Six years Navy. I understand it's very easy to say "but when it's America is different". I think Americans are the only ones who think so. Anyway I appreciate you correcting what you wrote. We should probably talk about this somewhere else. It's a very difficult subject for sure. What a mess.
