Meanwhile in the UK (80's)

We never had the Mustang or 'vette.
We never had gun's
We watched "Starsky & Hutch" and painted our Datsun's with a White Stripe.
Never had the "General Lee" and often tried jumping into our car's through the window.

We did however have (as I did) the car of my dreams

The Ford Capri,

Often referred to as "the Crapi", "Dagenham Dustbin" some were total rustbuckets.

But I loved all 3 of mine

1976 Mk.2 1.6S in white
1979 Mk.3 2.0GL in gold
1980 Mk.3 2.8i in Blue (later resprayed in black)

I always wanted a 3.0, my neighbor had one. My BIL bought it's spiritual successor, an XR4i, when they first came out, a bundle of fun.

Is that the one that came with a Cosworth engine on the hotter models? Definitely in the sleeper-car hall of fame.

yes correct

Common practice to get a BOG standard Ford Sierra, with a 1.3 or 1.6 engine
put a body kit and cosworth badge and interior, and drive around town posing.

Then get blown out of the water by a 1.6 jap sedan LOL

They also tended to get stolen a lot, even the fake ones, as a result, insurance for the XR4i's & cossies where very expensive

Ahhh the memories!! I had one in college and promptly added bigger injectors and an intercooler. It was fast as hell then proceeded to shred driveshafts as the torque was too much for the innovative driveshaft design. Still one of my favorite cars. The power oversteer was FANTASTIC and the overboost (to 21 psi) was a complete kick in the butt!! We went on an enthusiastic drive in Mexico one late night and I parked it on the grass at my parents house. When I drove off the next day, I saw that it killed all of the grass underneath!!!

What a great car!!
