Both are down year over year. The December figures look really bad compared to everyone else sporting large growth compared to 2014.

It's about to lose another within the next month or two. Was on the fence about a 3er or 4er Gran Coupe but was able to test drive a 4er Gran Coupe that a relative just took delivery of before Christmas. Everything about the 4er Gran Coupe was more appealing to me than the 3er.

I see 4 Series up 11.2% on the year. What numbers are you referring to?

Me too! How close was it?

It's stunning how Lexus jumped Mercedes Benz to reach the number two spot in luxury car sales. Lexus sales jumped 11% for 2015 which I'm really surprised at because I think their new design language is horrible.

Another eye opener is how bad BMW sales were in December with the 3 series sales dropping almost 61% from 2014. I'm sorry but I don't know how anybody spins that poor performance.

I was referring to the December sales figures. Combined they are roughly equal at 101k units between the years which is still not great given that 2015 was a record year that saw significant growth for nearly every automaker in the US (and up until late in the year BMW certainly looked like it was about to trend that way too).

Ok, well that was a bit confusing then, given you replied to my statement about one model stealing sales from another. Clearly that did not apply for December.

BMW still sold the most luxury vehicles. One month does not make a trend. We'll see where things go for the 3/4 in Q1 2016. I suspect that sales will rise, and BMW is headed for another big year.

If any figure on this sheet look likes a cause for concern it is the new X1. I would have thought this vehicle would be very popular - certainly more so than the old one. It's still very early though - we'll see how it plays out in 2016.

Agree.. I bet all is ok... the first gen version sold under 10K units the first year and then exploded. With a big hole in the lineup for the better part of a year... sales reps are going to need to see more in stock on the lots to start pushing these out the door ... I expect the new version to sell well..

Thank you. I think that M2 is a great addition to the M range.
X3 M will be the next one?

BMW Statement 1:
"The BMW M brand set a new U.S. sales record with 14,504 cars sold, an increase of 68 percent over 2014."

BMW Statement 2:
(Head M Division, van Meel, about 2015 sales) "In fact it was the company's most successful year in its 40-year history. Never before have so many M and M Performance automobiles been sold in one year."

What stands out to me in statement 2 is how van Meel defines success as combined sales of "pure M" cars and "impure M Performance" cars.

I wonder if a portion of those 14,505 cars which set a sales record are mere M Performance cars and not "pure" M cars?

Assuming for the sake argument that's true; and, you remove the M performance car component from the 14,504 number, would, then, the remaining number continue to justify the statement: 2015 "... In fact it was the company's most successful year in its 40-year history" ?

Just something to kick around while waiting for the playoffs to start.

^^^ I was wondering the exact same thing as I read the van Meel interview, too.
