Reshuffling the deck.... back to BMW?

Hi All - I currently own a 23 Golf R 20AE 6MT and a Model Y Performance. The lease on the MYP is up in a few months and I've been contemplating what to do. I love the Golf R, so my first inclination was to grab the new Model 3 (0-60 in 2.9s) and just continue on with that and the R. My wife already has a base Model Y as well, so I wouldn't be hurting for the space in the 3.

That said, as a long time M guy (owned an e46, e92 and a f80cs) I also had some thoughts about completely reshuffling the deck. Grab a base Model 3 or something of that ilk for my DD and then trade the Golf R for a new 6MT M2/M3. Could also perhaps throw the CT4 BW and Giulia Quad in that mix (the one automatic that I'd consider).

Any thoughts on those paths? I have until June to make a final decision. Either way, whatever I get has to have some sort of a back seat, so no two seaters in the equation for now.

TIA!

This is easy. Either buy out the lease if the residual is favourable or walk away and pick up another Model 3 for a bag of pucks and keep a shit ton of money in your pocket.

I just came back to bmw myself after a bit of a hiatus. Picked up an m550 with low miles for a daily. I was tired of the 4 and 6 cylinder cars. I should be picking it up from the dealer next week. It'll be parked next to my ct5v blackwing that I use for weekend fun.

The Golf R is a rare beast, especially in that form. I’d definitely keep that and maybe consider pairing it with an M2. If that’s too much to ask for, then yeah go with the M3P.

I tried it once, then I realized I had a garage queen for 10 years that I only put 20k miles on and it costs me like $2 a mile over that 10 years in depreciation, not to mention the taxes, insurance and maintenance. It wasn’t very much enjoyment for the money.

My M3 is my only car. It needs to be driven and enjoyed A LOT to justify the price.

I like the idea of a Model 3 + older M3 (e46 or e92). Model 3 for the boring stuff, and then the M3 can cover the spicy classic flavor.

If you love the Golf R, why change? Seems like you liked the Model 3 as well. Just buy a new Model 3. The new performance model should be even more entertaining.

A Golf R does not interest me, but neither does a Model 3 performance. I am an M3 and M5 guy though I would like a Porsche 991.2 Turbo and would consider a Model S Plaid. If I was to shuffle your cars, I’d go for an M3 x drive and new Model 3 performance. There won’t be a smaller M2 x drive until 2026. With big power, the AWD is great for putting the power down under more conditions.

If it was me I would do standard or long range Model 3 with a fun manual car. Either keeping the Golf or M2/M3... or my personal favorite Z4MR.

Skip another EV and get a sports car. Vette, Miata, Elise, etc or even get a muscle car. Hellcat, Mustang, ZL1...

The new Golf R and a Model 3 Performance is a hell of combo, why rock the boat? Go with that plan and then see what materializes later. Trading in two cars in this environment is a no-go.

I see no reason to have a golf R and a Model 3. They're both daily driver cars..give them back the Tesla and drive the golf R
