From a scientific (and actual) position you are correct. However, are you commenting on the EU/UK contribution to the global pollution or just making a general observation? Because I'm familiar with the science and statistics, I agree and think all diesel vehicles should be phased out.

The world will be fine (for a few billion years at least). We’re the ones dying out.

To the know the future of all here on Earth, look westward at dusk to that beautiful orb in the sky known as Venus.

The only way I ever really take anyone seriously when it comes to this climate change stuff as if they completely live off the grid electricity free and they ride bicycles everywhere they go. That person I would sit down and have a conversation with. The rest are just virtue signaling. Switching from ice to EV just changes the carbon emission impact from burning fuel in one car to consuming energy producing, recycling and disposing of batteries. Nothing changes. Just virtue signaling. Oh well. Guberments do try hard.

In UK we are being led up the garden path by gov listening to blown out of proportion greenie lies that cars are responsible. It's part and parcel of them trying to phase out cars altogether with all the other many measures in place in cities to hinder motorists.
The PM's wife is a greenie,go figure.

It is the easy bandaid route to get them elected, rather than tackling the actual problems and facing the consequences
What's new really

I miss the days of seeing 600+ miles of range on the board computer. Nothing like a 530d crossing Germany on one tank. Diesels still make a lot of sense in certain applications.

I’m ok bro. It’s just stupid. The whole idea is based off of total BS and will do more harm to the environment that ICE. But then it was never about the environment.

The true solution in my opinion is to get every car owner to keep their cars for life, i.e. no additional new cars, and any investment to be focused on public transport, period!
So to all electric cars owners claiming to do it for earth, what looks like a solution in fact it is simply a disaster, carbon foot print before EV cars hit the on the road on average equals to a diesel car 4 years on the road, source of electricity is simply not green at present let along if everyone convert to EV, and on the basis this is early days for EV tech, current EV owners are more likely to upgrade their cars faster to keep up with range & battery developments.

I'll go further. Said person needs to live in a cave, wear homemade clothing from hand spun natural wool yarn, and shit in their own garden.

No bicycle.

Then I'll take the "lecture".

Peace out.

Diesels are fantastic.....

Sulfur Dioxide not so much... hints low sulfur Diesel fuel now.

It's a great lubricant, but harsh..... yet no more deadly than a gasser.

As a person who keeps his cars to literally multiple hundreds of thousands of miles and well over 15 years (my current fleet average is 16 years old and 187,000 miles) my opinion is your proposition is unrealistic, yet commendable. The idea that human society can exist on public transportation alone is unrealistic as well. There is a majority of the world that is still rural, where gasoline vehicles make the most economic and operational sense. Automobiles are a foundational tool of the modern human economy; we are all far wealthier with them than without. Planet-saving environmentalism is merely theater from those people who took Drama and Poly Science in high school and college.

Those of us who practice in either sophisticated or unsophisticated forms of dirt manipulation to earn a living truly understand how life works and have more important shit to worry about than how to save a planet.

Diesel cars emit on average less CO2 than petrol cars....
