MB GLA45 4 cylinder turbo 375hp 4.3 0-60
Why the f$ck can't BMW make some mid entry or mid trim SUVs like this
There should be a x3 or X1 to blow this away And they need a v6 turbo that goes sub 4.5 for a standard x5 that's not a 120k dollar boat which is the x5m. |

Wow from a 4 banger? Auto engineers are really pushing the limits here utilizing the turbo! First the 6 cylinder making V8 HP and now 4 cylinders! That is pretty impressive!
Not sure if I would consider it though for a 4 cylinder engine.. I would need to experience if there will be a difference in sound, initial take off torque feel, and upper speed acceleration. I guess the same could be said about inline 6 vs V8

MPPK and RC does not = 5 sec, 5.4-5.5 maybe
Nice to know one has the capability, there is a market and people buy them, heck I had a 2003 E55 and a 2009 C63 and loved them for their straight power and get up and go. Reliability was so-so, but performance engines for sure. Many Im sure on this forum would welcome a 4.5 sec. 3.5 v6 turbo as standard. If performance was not an issue how come we are all trying to extract power from MPPK plus Dinan JB or Rc add ons.

MB is really developing great high pressure turbo 4-cylinder motors. I believe their 8-cylinders are variants or designed after these new generation 4 bangers. Will be impressive to see further tuning on these motors.

As are the BMW i4's and i6's. Common architecture, I hope it continues to develop HP and efficiency.

because nobody purchased an x1 35i let alone purchase it $10-12k higher. if the market commanded it they would offer it. audi does the SQ5 and not having any issues selling them. BMW struggled to get the x1 35i off the lot and custom builds with high sticker were basically non-existent unless sold as exec demos.

Interestingly, both Mercedes and Audi choose to offer only the entry level and high-end performance vehicle in this class. For Mercedes, there is a CLA250 and CLA45, but no "CLA32" (or whatever it would be called). For Audi, there is the standard Q3 and RS Q3 (the latter not sold in the US), but no S Q3. Perhaps the market for a tweener is still not established. We'll see if BMW can break new ground there - that is if they do intend to offer the "M35i" soon as has been rumored. |

I would imagine this is a really laggy and peaky car.. coupled with mostly FWD platform and tack on AWD... and this definitely isnt a SUV.. not sure why you are so excited about it?
The lower powered models actually probably make great daily driver if you need a hatch and can afford the MB tax. |

New gen (2017) has updated transmission and front mechanical differential, so expect a even faster car with a better functional AWD system. You cannot deny for it's price fully loaded (costs about 5k lessI believe), it does run faster than a 340i, also with FBO (includes ECU flash), the CLA/GLA45 runs 0-60 in 3.3 secs and 1/4mile in low 11s, thanks to the AMG forged engine, and 26 psi of stock boost on turbo. Interior could be better, and back seats are a bit cramped on the CLA45, I do think the new gen is a bit better from what I hear. |

Test drove a GLA45 AMG variant. Its a blast to drive. Begged my wife to.lease one but astestically she didn't like it. She said, the only reason why you like it is because of the power. I'm like, and? Already had a tune in mind.

What makes the GLA45 exciting to me is the versatility combined with performance. If I had to choose a current-model vehicle other than an F80 M3, this would definitely make it to the short list. This, especially now that they've addressed a few things with the LCI. |

Also i havent driven a turbo 4 banger since I was molesting VW 1.8T with big turbos to get such numbers so thats been over a decade (wow where the does the years go!) so im sure tech has gotten better at hiding the dynamics of a big blower attached a 4 cyl but im definitely skeptical that this is a better solution that a proper 6 cylinder. My opinion is that 4 cyl with big turbos for big numbers have their place but not as a "SUV." Im thinking its place is for performance like in a compact rocket rather than for everyday utility. Something along the lines of the incoming M2 setup in this car. Actually if BMW were to ever build the M2 in a wagon or shooting brake design I would love it for a second car. Either way just an opinion.. Last edited by wuzupfoo; 04-08-2016 at 01:16 PM.. |

One of my neighbours has one. It sure does look great and sounds great. It pretty low for a car marketed as an SUV. (The AMG version, the non-AMG is pretty high). I would say it is almost the same height as a Mazda 3 hatch. It is a hot hatch/wagon, at this point we're just arguing semantics.
I personally wouldn't buy one, but I can see the appeal of it. |
