F1 Miami GP ticket debacle

Been in the loop on this race since the first rumor, subscribed to every available newsletter. Recall writing in and signing onto some petition to help get the race approved by city council, as encouraged by the race organizers:

We appreciate you! Stay tuned for updates with the latest news and information about the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix. In the meantime, here are some key upcoming dates:

October 23, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. – Miami Gardens City Council discussion regarding Formula 1 (18605 NW 27th Ave., Miami Gardens, Florida)
October 29, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. – Miami Dade Board of County Commissioners vote regarding Formula 1 (111 N.W. 1st Street, Downtown Miami, Florida)

Be sure to attend these meetings, and ask friends to do the same (tag us on social media!). When you do, tell your elected officials during the “public comment period” that you support Formula 1!

Thanks again for your support!

With race date set, then started receiving ticket communications:

Your Pre-Sale Window is Almost Here!
Your exclusive pre-sale window is one week away! Be sure to mark your calendar.

TOMORROW: Exclusive Pre-Sale Access

Late the evening before the pre-sale begins:

Pre-Sale Update
Thank you for your interest in the FORMULA 1 MIAMI GRAND PRIX. Due to high demand, we no longer have pre-sale tickets available.

Oh hey, no worries. I wasn't, you know, expecting to be able to buy tickets or anything.

At least we didn't book hotels and make arrangements on the basis of these communications like many others. Inflated tickets now available to F1 fans via scalpers. Well done, race organizers.

I had family wanting to come down for the race. We all had our calendars set to buy right when the pre-sale started. Pretty pissed to get that email the night before.

I'll just do Austin next year. Cheaper to fly out there & go to the race than stay home and drive down to Miami. The Secondary sites have GA tickets going for $800+ for a 3-day pass. Ridiculous

Yeah it sucks. It's the weekend of my older sister's birthday. Oh well, they're still staying with me for Thanksgiving, so there's that.

Totally disappointed, but not going to lose sleep over it. I kind of expected it, especially down here in South Florida. Same with international futbol games, its very diverse down here and F1, futbol etc are HUGE. I cant say I expected getting tickets

Yeah, and under most circumstances that's fair enough. Was the botched communications from F1 Miami that led me to believe otherwise.

If people were really sharing their code and the site allowing people to purchase tickets, then that's all types of faaawwked. I did find out my coworker got Turn 1, Row 1, Seat 1-4 so Im hoping to grab one of those

I got a mclaren email last Monday and used that to get tickets.

Glad I did, I also received the presale cancelled email.

But 4K for 4 tickets was a bit surprising.

Ah well.

I got offered Aston martins pre sale tickets. 890 was the cheapest I could find. I was willing to pay somewhere between 350-500 per grandstand seat. I should have bought and resold honestly but I just couldn't justify it.

Cota is legit half the price

Friend of mine was registered for presale as well and received the same email. Due to demand presale no longer offered.

I still plan on going, even if I have to spend $1k for ticket. I was hoping to get a 3 day pass for around $1k but it sounds like that's out of the question.

No surprise, but the Miami race is shaping up to be much more of an "event" for the rich and famous as opposed to actual race fans who want to see F1.

I've been to Miami and officially it's the most expensive place in US.

IDK...off season Miami is pretty cheap.

LA & San Fran are ridiculous ALL the time. Glad I made a visit but would never return to these two $hitholes ever again.

Prices everywhere are crazy right now. I knew tickets for this would be expensive but right now its even more than I thought it would be.

As a longtime F1 fan and having never been to a race before, Ill do everything in power to attend since this is in my own backyard. I want to go the full 3 days too, not just the race. May cost me and arm and a leg but it is what it is.
