Original Owner 1999 540i Manual Transmission M Sport

Greetings,

A friend of mine factory ordered a 1999 540i manual transmission M Sport with many (if not all) available options other than the automatic transmission. My friend is looking to purchase a new 8-Series and he wants to sell the 540i. I want to purchase it, but because he is a friend, I want to be certain to offer him a fair price. The car has 73,000 miles on it, has always been garaged, and is in number 1 condition. It runs perfectly, and everything works. All service has been performed at BMW dealerships and is fully documented. No accidents, not even a minor one.

I sense that the blue book values may not be accurate, otherwise I would offer him high book and be done with it.

I would be very interested in your thoughts.

Sounds like a fun car... on Bring a Trailer, he might find his largest audience...I would think $15K if it's really pristine is the top it'd go, likely more like 10-12K Range.

The car is currently one of the best values for fans of the ultimate driving machine. N/A V8 motor, manual tranny, amazing sound and handling from the era where BMW was still king and not today where they are the vague steering feedback “ho hum driving machine”.

Also 540i has much better reliability and almost same performance as the coveted e39m5. If you ever heard a e39 540i with an exhaust on it you wouldn’t even question the purchase.

In my area I see 540i manuals for for $6-8k but they are 140k mile plus and beat up. A pristine one like described it’s hard to value, I would guess $12-15k?
