Help with Building a New Gaming Desktop!!!!

I think its time to update my gaming desktop. Its good timing because I have $700 bucks in amazon rewards.

Should I just get a PC ready to go or should I build one off amazon, yeah amazon not newegg I have about $700 in giftcards to amazon. I dont know what to look for I have been out of the pc hardware game for a while now.


-Budget total is $900, $1k if I need to
-Windows 7 compatible, doesnt need to come with Windows 7 installed
-It can run some good games on ultra
-I already have 2 DVI monitors,keyboard, and gaming mouse.

Also I will buy 1-2 items from like Newegg if I will save a bunch of money.

Maybe you can find a new Alienware, eventually look for a not so old ALX since they just changed the model. I think you might still find some for sale.
I have four and all run, they are all destroyers. Even my old 2006 Aurora laptop on XP still runs strong today ($5400 back in time).
They were however very expensive, but always last.

With that sort of cash you should be able to get a real good setup. Maybe you can get a custom build already made?

Try and get something with newer hardware, 860+ and 960+ gtx gpu, 4th and 5th gen processors, ssd hard drive and gaming based motherboard. Ram isn't much of a issue these days.

I checkout www.cyberpowerpc.com from time to time. Seems like a good, interactive site to build your own. Seems reasonable on price too.

Building a PC is not difficult, I've done it quite a few times and was successful on my first attempt. For your budget, you can build a pretty damn good desktop.

Power supply, motherboard, RAM, processor, hard drive(s), graphics card, operating system. That's pretty much it. I didn't go with anything too fancy, like a fancy sound card or a Blu Ray drive or anything. Make sure the power supply supplies enough power for all parts, especially if you're going with a fancy processor or high end graphics.

You can buy a motherboard that has integrated graphics, but if you do any sort of real gaming or video editing you will want at least one dedicated graphics card. Going into nVidia SLI or something similar with two cards, you'll see your budget disappear pretty fast. I was somewhat conservative on this on my last build, but the card itself still has two GPU's.

I also recommend solid state hard drives. More expensive, but MUCH faster. At least use it for your most commonly used programs and your operating system. Windows is loaded on my PC before I can get my ass situated in my chair after I turn the computer on.

Eventually I will think of more, but I built my PC a few years ago and it's still rocking. I'm considering upgrading the graphics card though, maybe...

I'm at work, so I just grabbed at whatever would be in the realm of what I would pick. Definitely by no means final build, to be used more as a guide. For example deals are everywhere and I know $100 256 gig Solid State Drives exists, just I haven't found it. Current price is $1024

I always enjoy building these for people.

I wouldn't buy from a "company" or "manufacture" you'll lose a lot of value in build and in PC shipping (75 minimum for shipping alone). Put that into your PC.

I'll get something together when I go home tonight.


Here's what I came up with. Somewhat similar to my own but a little less eccentric and more focus on the graphics card. I build mine for streaming more than anything else and video editing. The GPU wasn't my greatest concern and I bought a 750TI FTW (EVGA) card for 100 on sale. This one uses a 770 which has a considerably larger band on power, of course the more you spend there the more you get, but the gain is not exponential like the price. Here's what I would do with a grand more or less. A couple of things are interchangeable here and there, but it's probably what I'd mostly stick with.

I'm on my 2nd desktop from them. The first I got early 2007 and was customized through their site. The current one I got in 2012 through Walmart because I could use billmelater and make no payments. I had to upgrade the video card(used 560ti off Ebay) and power supply after I got it, but I can still run games at max quality with good FPS.

Honestly, your budget is pretty low for a really good gaming PC, but it can still be done I guess. For the processor I'd just start out with an i7 920. I think you can find them on Ebay or whatever for like $50. You can overclock them to 4.2ghz with little effort (spend the money on a good cooler. I liquid cool everything, but your budget won't permit this), and they are all you need for the gaming titles of today. Don't go spending $250 on a CPU, it's just not worth it with your limited budget. The video card is the most important part, just get a GTX 970. I think they can be had for around $320 or so now on Amazon. For the last $600 of your budget, you should be able to get a decent case, mobo, RAM, and perhaps an SSD (though it will be low capacity).

lol no way 1100 will get a decent gaming machine. I think I have my build figured out.

I know. My PSU alone costs almost half that, but I didn't want to be rude. You're throwing away money on that $250+ i5, just get an i7 920 above like I said. It's all you need for any games today, and it's cheap as hell. Also, save some money and get a Zotac 970. I think you can get them for $309 with free shipping:

I run these cards in a tri-sli setup on one of my machines, they are a great value for what you get performance wise. The 970 is the best card available for the money honestly. I run tri 980s in my main rig, but that's only due to 4k gaming.

First off, do you need a processor that strong? You're only playing games right? It's an absolute waste of money unless your doing something extreme like video encoding. A quad-core i5 would suit your needs far better.

Lastly, the Seagate you chose is rather slow at 5900RPM and expensive. I just bought a 3TB 7200RPM SATA 6 for $60 + tax, the 4TB was $20 more.

lol the price has nothing to do with it, that cooler was liked by a bunch of people that gave advice on this build and actually moved more air then over coolers.

Damn, my bad. I didn't realize it was a hyper 212. I'm also more geared towards water cooling so seeing that shape just brings me back to the old days. It's a great choice.

I've had good luck with iBuyPower PC's. You can design it and they build it. I got a loaded rig for under $1000. Use it for simulators (Assetto Corsa) and works great.

Check that out, I just completed my first build last week and I love it. I optioned for the amd fx 8350 vs an i5 or i7 to stay under budget and to get the most bang for my buck. I have no complaints with it, its more than enough power for what I use it for.

edit... the $1086.90 price is including a Asus 24" led monitor, logitech g710+ keyboard and steelseries mouse. So if you have those peripherals already than deduct around $300 or so.
