Speaking of Daou, I bought a Paso Robles wine trip at a charity event over the weekend (it was for a great cause). Includes 3 night stay at La Bellasera hotel, airfare and car rental...
While Napa is always the gold standard, has anyone taken a vineyard tour of Paso Robles? Any recommendations? I know Daou would be one of them... |

From one of my favorite producers in the Northwest, a Merlot made in a distinctive style.
FWIW, I've always found Chateau Ste Michelle to offer very good value across its full lines of whites and reds.

Welp, 2 weeks of restraint is all I could muster. The “lower end” EuroCave model is on sale so I broke down and got one adding capacity *up to* 74 more bottles. Only questions are whether I can avoid ordering enough wine to fill it before it arrives and where to locate it when it gets here.

We enjoy Willm's Alsatian wines, too, and would liked to have had yours to compare to this 2020 Willm Riesling:

Failed to post yesterday but enjoyed this beautiful red from Down Under. Frankly I think it's a steal at $25 in our local wine shop.

Willm in Colmar was only a few minutes from my place. I've always enjoyed their wines considering that the price of a bottle was nearly 60% cheaper that what we pay now.

Still, at least Willm's wines are affordable. Years ago, we enjoyed Zind Humbrecht's wine weekly; now, only for the most special of occasions. Honestly, I think we appreciate them more now, and that's not a bad thing. "Willm in Colmar was only a few minutes from my place." Given what Alsace has to offer in the way of gracious living when it comes to food, wine, climate, scenery, et al., I envy your former circumstance.

We went with another Chateau Ste Michelle Cold Creek Vineyard wine this evening. This one is a white; it's a Riesling we will enjoy with the Chez Panisse Grilled Tuna and Red Onion Salad described here: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...9#post29830659.

Chateau Ste Michelle does make some excellent wines, been too long since I’ve enjoyed a bottle. That needs to be corrected…

A buddy gave me these bottles from his family vineyards when we met up in Napa yesterday. Was a great day out!
Btw, it’s pretty crazy how expensive wine tasting has gotten in Napa. For example, tasting at Castello di Amorosa was $18 a person 7 years ago. It is now $50 for standing tasting. Other places like Del Dotto cost $160 each for a tour and tasting. Popularity and the wildfires we have had probably have something to do with that. Sonoma, on the other hand, is still pretty good value. Last edited by BMW F22; 02-11-2023 at 02:35 PM.. |

Trying a new (to us) Zinfandel this evening. It's got too much fruit and too little acidity for my taste. I should have read the back label before buying it; instead, I got hooked by 'Unfined and Unfiltered'. Just part of trying new things.

Last night and tonight. The Investor last night. When at Peju, the guy said to us “this is a fun little wine you should have for when you have pizza.”
OK. Had the Piccolo. Dude was right. Perfect for pizza. |

I like it that you share photos of various bottles an not-so-expensive wines. It's a good reminder that wine doesn't to be bloody expensive to be enjoyable. My wife and I have our share of more expensive wines from time to time. But we also enjoy finding and drinking "everyday" wines in the $8 to $15 per bottle range. There are a lot of pretty darn good inexpensive wines out there. Finding them is a real treat. Conversely, there are some stinkers too. Of course, that can be said of expensive wines as well. |
