Apple iCloud Storage

Anyone else spending extra $$ on the Apple Cloud?

I'm finding that I'm taking too many pictures with my 256GB iPhone and the free storage service don't do it justice.

I pay the $0.99 for the extra 50g of space. I probably use 10% of that.

I decided to do a family plan that gives me 200GB vs 50GB. The next step up is 2TB. I think the pricing is ludicrous though. And they know it.

The 200GB family plan is $2.99 per month. I feel like their free plan should at least be the amount of storage on your devices.

Not here. All my pictures live on my NAS and externals. Every month I run incremental backup.

I still use the Apple Cloud to synchronize applications across my devices and contacts.

I fairly refuse to pay for my iCloude space! I manage to use the free plan as much as I can.

Google photos free unlimited storage for Pixel devices

I believe google also offers offers free photo storage for all devices but not at full res. Better than nothing.

iCloud does make it easy on iOS though.

You’re actually saving money on the long run paying $2.99 for the 200gb of space instead of paying an extra $150-$250 for the bigger hard drive phone every 3-4 years.

I use a 2TB SSD RAID1 locally and sync to iCloud.

I currently pay $2.99 for 50GB but I really need to step up to 2TB plan for $9.99 to back up photos and music.

Looking at the new Apple One to see what makes the most sense, but a new iPhone w/1 year of free Apple TV+ doesn't help the numbers.

Not here either. Here's my method.
Do dump on my imac of photos (save and delete). Then i might add some back if i want them on my phone.
Then i upload the good photos to google photos which allows unlimited space for free. You just have to not link it to your device to keep it free. So a couple additional steps but it ends up being free unlimited photo cloud storage.

I don't since I do transfer photos of files on my G-Drive whenever the memory is about to get full.

I had to upgrade to the 200gb $2.99 a month. I really love the convenience of sharing and viewing all of my family pictures in all of our devices. Seeing how I have 2 iMacs, 2 Macbooks, 3 iPads, 3 iPhones and 2 Apple TVs

I only use iCloud to back up my infrequently-used personal iPhone, and as a shared repository for my password safe so that I can access it from home, work, and portable. I'm on the $0.99/month plan, and frequently wonder if it is worth it for Apple to charge $0.99 every month to my card after the merchant transaction fees are taken out.

If you have Amazon Prime, one of the most overlooked benefits that they offer is unlimited photo storage. I use it as a backup for all my photos, in case something happens with my local NAS copy at home. I also pay to run a personal Piwigo server on Amazon AWS, where all of my important photos and meme collection is stored.....

2TB plan shared across five people.

Everyones phones and photos are backed up which saves me the headache of panicked phone calls about lost data and other shenanigans.

It's easy to update to the next tier whenever you need, so just start with what will work for you now and upgrade if you need to later.
