Piano Black Trim Scratches
has anyone managed a way to remove the scratches from the piano black trim in the M5
seems to mark so easy, must be a way of polishing them out, anyone? |

If it doesn't have a coating it should be easy.
I would buy a single piece and experiment to see which compound will match the luster. Probably a mild jeweler's rouge, toothpaste, or a cape cod cloth would work. But I wouldn't want to test on my original pieces. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I would use the same techniques used to clean black gloss grand pianos. There're tons of youtube videos on how to do it.

i still have some chemical guys V Line products, i might start with the V32 and see how it pans out but this stuff is terrible, i was wiping it the other days with a micro fibre cloth and that puts marks on it, but what else can you do as piano black attracts dust on a terrible scale, it just never looks clean, i might go back to BMW with this 1

PPF or cover with CF trim
Ceramic coat might help a lot too.

I am not sure how to get the scratches out - but - for regular maintenance I use Groits speed shine with a micro fiber cloth. Good results.

Interesting to read that the piano trim is so easily scratched. I've been telling myself that my interior/trim options are firm but I'll consider a number of exterior paints on a CPO in the coming months when 19's start showing up. This makes me think it might not be the best route- especially if I don't know how the previous owner maintained it. The silver trim just doesn't seem "expensive" to me when thinking of a car over 100k.

I watched a few videos yesterday on youtube regarding this and it looks like a job for the pro detailing guys, to achieve the best results even they advise to only remove 90% of the scratches.
my advice is dont pick this option! |

I had heard this was an issue back on the X5M, but first I’m hearing it’s still a problem... hope you guys find a solution, because it’s a very striking trim when clean and scratch free!
