CDV Install Question
I'm going to do the CDV install this weekend for my xi but I'm debating the need to bleed the clutch line because it's such a PITA for the xi. I've scoured all the posts on the CDV and I see a lot of peeps saying that it's not necessary to bleed because "the air bubbles will work their way out of the system".
Is this really true? I'm trying to imagine how air bubbles in the brake/clutch system could work their way out from so deep within the bowels of the hydraulic system. Any advice appreciated. Cheers.

Hmm... I don't know about the air bubbles working their way out of the system, but you shouldn't need to bleed the clutch if you clamp the hoses well as you put the CDV in...

your still getting air in the system now matter how you clamp the hoses. Whatever air is in the new CDV will be in the system. Some don't bleed, I did. It was easy after I removed the front drive shaft, only 8 bolts and it's out.

It took Alex (HyperM3) about 10 minutes to do mine last week and he did not bleed the system (I think he crimps it). After he was done, he pumped my clutch pedal and brake pedal a few times each and both clutch and brake are perfect. You will not be sorry you did this mod, it makes the car shift 1000x better....exactly like a car should! I feel like I have a different car now.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll do the swap sans-bleed and see how she feels. I can always bleed later on if necessary.

Another didn't bleed guy here - just clamped the line with a C-clamp and it was fine after pumping and within 15 mins (certainly less time that it would have taken me to drop the front driveshaft or wiggle a socket on that infernal valve).

I didn't use the tool but I bled the system using only the bleed screw. After a few pumps of the clutch the pedal had only 2 inches of travel at the farthest extension. I then drove the car around and pulled the clutch pedal back off the floor. Shifting is better than ever.

You don't need a modified CDV valve- you can just pull the old one out and join the two hoses back together. Works fine and save yourself $30 and the wait for the part to arrive. BB
