New Cannonball Record: 27 Hours 25 Minutes
Wow, thought Bolian's record would last longer than it did. I believe the time as it appears Roy approves.

Insanity. Not sure whether I'm more impressed, or angry on behalf of anyone on the same roads... I'm clearly getting older and more boring.

Amazed that the E63 with 3 people can achieve 193mph, even with a tune.

i'm going to be the bummer and just say that this activity shouldn't be covered or attempted and those involved should be held accountable.

I considering it cheating that they had lots of help from spotters and the like. Did Bolian do this also?
Still an amazing feat to pull off and not get ticketed/arrested. Props! |

We're close to the inflection point of where this starts getting too dangerous - think Roy had to average just under 90 which is fast but not insane. These guys were doing close to 200mph at times on public roads. Do no harm should be the main priority.

Roy just had his second film come out called Apex on NBC Sports I believe, documentary so not exactly what you're asking about though.

Older has nothing to do with it, these guys that broke the record this year and prior years were all 30+ and some were 50+. Relax man, id bet your more likely to get killed by some soccer mom blowing a red light texting her bf than by someone who knows how to drive and can handle a 700whp beast.

Sure, but I'm much more likely to be killed by these people doing 160mph on public roads, than I would be if they were sticking to the speed limit. I'm not saying they're the worst drivers on the road, and yes, people using their phone etc while driving makes me way more angry, but I am saying that charging across the whole country well over the speed limit isn't cool. Races should be on race tracks.

... so mountain climbers should stick to mountains, divers should stick to God-made oceans, pilots should stick to flying lanes ... MMMMok. Basic human nature dictates that if something might can be done, then it's worth a try. Laws have two corollary intentions: To tether human nature for the greater good, and to promote the survival (at worst) and success (at best) of that greater good -- usually referred to as a society. Sorry, but that soccer mom is risking far more discord within our society than the dude doing 150-plus in rural Montana is ... ... and besides: Laws are made to be broken, because human nature makes it so.

If you have a ruptured artery, it needs to be fixed pronto. But you already have a ruptured artery, so the risk is already there. If these guys didn't race across the country, they absolutely certainly would never kill anyone by racing across the country.
Yeah, mountain climbers should stick to mountains - believe me, it's way more fun that way!!! *And you're only likely to kill/injure yourself and those who have specifically agreed to the heightened risk of taking part in that activity.* Asterisks for importance. That part is my point. You want to hoon about in your car and there is no risk of harming someone who is just trying to go about their day? Sweet, have a great time!...... You want to hoon about in your car but in doing so you are significantly increasing the risk of harming innocent bystanders? No. Don't be selfish. I'm all for folk having fun. I'm even more for folk pushing limits and boundaries competitively. But I am strongly against these things if they are damaging (or heighten the risk of damage) to people around them who don't want to be involved. And will someone please revoke the license of this damn soccer mom who keeps driving while distracted!! I totally agree that distracted/disinterested/incompetent drivers are by far the biggest risk. Partly because there are so many of them. |
