Racism
Stereotypes I live with, but I thought (k, bimmette told me to) to write up a thread here about this.
The write up was done for my blog which is written to my friends as fun, but I actually thought you guys would get more out of the style it was done on instead of me cleaning it up. I'm like one report away from being banned anyway, so I won't clean this up. I get out of tickets, I sometimes don't even slow down when my RD goes off just to see, how it plays out. This is what happened to an other friend of mine. He parked his car within the spot, he got out, he was told by the guy behind him, that his car will be hit if he doesn't move forward (he was in the spot, clearly). The dude wanted to park in the front without blocking an entry, which is cool, he just went about it wrong all the way. My friend is a car guy, he knows how much space he needs to leave so the one in front of him is needed for the one in front to get out. He also knows very well that his passport says American. So, a white guy does this to him, after telling him to move, and after being rude? See a white guy? he left without a ticket. My friend had a scratch and he got basically told that because his blood lines are not from here, he should be happy. Can someone tell me who's bloodlines are the right ones here anymore? He got insulted in front of people, the white guy hit him and went to his flat without reporting it, and nothing was given to the one causing trouble? Let's use me as the counter argument. I'm mildly blond with a bad mouth and a kind attitude. There are not many states left where I have not been pulled over without a ticket. Fun for me, so much fun. In my country it for like this. We have a few cops, and no court will ever let you off if they caught you since they know, and we all know you were speeding in the wrong place. You also lose your license there if you go to zebras when it's not your turn. Rough city rules. We know it, and we play by them. Tickets are big. Like really big. The white man was given no fault. As for my friend: He got abused verbally and his car was hit. Cops show up, and go "Mmm Kay.. Lets leave it." He has to go through their superiors and through a court to get anything moving. Now, I was told this is the land of the free. I should be excluded too. Oh, he doesn't want me to make a big deal out of this, but he has wrong friends if he truly thinks I would let this slip.

Crappy story for him, but how do you equate being an a55hole to being racist? 80% of the population in our neck of the woods are white.
I see people use the term racist far too often, and some don't question it. The term racist is being abused, by a large margin. Racism exists, but many of the stories I see that get tagged with it, don't appear to be more than somebody being an ass to somebody else. |

Yes, racism is over used, hell, before I moved to USA, I didn't know it was a real thing these days. But one car was hit and witnesses were there, one walks and nothing is done. Since cops came there, and all was reported, and still nothing happened I with my tiny blond brain can only assume it was because my calm and nice friend wasn't white.

Hi Ana.
Reading this I understand what you feel. Even though the street conflicts are everywhere regardless of race, sex or age, and nobody can be sure it was exactly the way as one of the conflict parties put it. We all color facts with our emotions, we are human beings. I am living in the country with no races diversity issues but the nationalities diversity issues, and I know well how it works on the street. This is sad what has happened to your friend that day. When I am writing this, I am thinking about the great movie Crash (2004), maybe you have watched it already. This is all about it. |

I see people stereotyping, a nice car and lack of respect/selfishness. Just a sad reflection of how we pay it forward as a society. Racism or just one's hurt ego?

I keep on wondering if the money made here is worth it. My kids blend in nicely but I would hate it if they learned to just look away like it is normal here.

I have to go and see what my hot red 428i(maybe x) can put down against an M3 now, but guys I do appreciate you thinking before answering.
I was raised to see humans as humans, and I keep banging my head to this in the USA. Soon I will be a wrinkled potato and nothing that will come out will save me. It's just wrong that I get away with shit, when the people who did nothing wrong has to be the ones going through a lot of trouble. Serial speeder here, nobody has ever been injured because of me. An hour of sleep, and then the road.

Lups, that's what I'm missing here. What views was he being vocal about. If those views were not racist in nature, is it you that is looking at the color of skin and making a determination?
However, if those views had racial remarks, I would totally agree with you. Btw, isn't it like 3am there? |

Sucks what happened to your friend. I'd like to believe that we are a little more diverse here in Toronto and that our police force are a bit more adept in applying the law the way it should regardless if you're brown, black, white or polka dot. The guy was a prick and karma will come back on him tenfold.

Who made the comment about his bloodline being not from here? Was it the jerk driver or was it the cops? If it was from one of the cops, he should definitely report that comment to his superiors.
With regards to the cops doing anything, unfortunately, what they did or didn't do was expected. This situation to them was a minor one with no gross property damage and no one injured. It's chalked up as a dispute. You had pictures of the incident and the cars involved. Did you get the other driver's information such as name, address, driver's license, and insurance? You don't need to have anything from the police to go after the other guy's insurance...if he has insurance. The picture you posted showing contact between the cars is pretty clear. |

There's a lot of conflict in society, for those in the NYC metro area, these incidents are everytime you turn around.
Why did this guy want your friend to pull up? By the pics, I think the guy has a pos car, and your friend has a nice car, so he makes contact. The rude guy would not do that if he had the nice car. I guess the racism is based on what was said? It's not right, plain and simple, no matter who is driving the BMW, and who is driving the pos. All of us here have a general respect for cars, and I would like to say for people. We got a 2015 Cadillac XTS when we were in Chicago, with 900 miles on it. I noticed my wife curbed it when she parked--out of respect for it being brand new. Anyhow, it's a shame, but it's not going to change anytime soon.... |

My sis in-law has a Passat TDI, and a guy in a Cayenne Turbo dinged her door. When she pointed it out, the male driver told her to go and f*** herself, and if she didn't like it, call the cops. I think the cops would have done nothing.... |

Hey Lups,
Let me first say that if witnesses heard racist comments being made by this oaf then this was a plain and simple racist incident - period. If no such comments were heard then clearly it would simply be wrong to rush to a racist argument. There is no doubt that racism is alive and well in this country and we have a LONG way to go to eradicate it, if even at all possible(!), but agree with other posters that it is also often abused to ignite emotions for the wrong reasons. So here is an interesting scenario - I was driving home from work last week - I was ‘mildly' speeding at 42 mph in a 35 mph zone but then most other cars with me were too . I came up on a car (pretty beat up Ford Taurus) and realized they were doing sub-30 mph so made to pass when suddenly (and I mean abruptly) the car switches lanes and cuts me off by inches and slows further. OK. took a breath and pulled back a little, counted to 5 and made to pass in the other lane giving the benefit of the doubt that the person did not see me (but intuitively knew otherwise!). Sure enough as I make to pass, this person chops me off again very close to taking my light out - let off some choice words and decided to wait for an upcoming traffic stop. We get to the traffic light and I can pull up alongside knowing now I can get away easily enough - barely have the window open (my mistake to even try to converse but couldn’t help myself) when all I hear is this shouting diatribe about me going too fast in my fancy car etc. etc. - can’t get a word in edgeways. I don’t even bother, close my window and turn off the street to avoid any further nonsense - an easy alternate route to my house - no brainer. Now it turns out that this person was a black female who was just plain angry about life - what if she had made contact with my car? Cops come on scene, see that her car rear is damaged and my front clipped - looks like I would be to blame by standard insurance protocol if no witnesses to verify what actually happened (and for reference, would have passed doing 35-40mph so no major infraction on my part there). I have to say that I would strongly suspect that her being a female would help her case as I’d likely fit a stereotype of the aggressive male driver of a fast car - agreed, an assumption and indeed a sexist comment on both sides in itself - never said I was perfect ! Was there anything racist here e.g. black woman taking her anger out on a white male with expensive car? I would say certainly not. Unfortunately idiots come in all shapes, sizes and colors. This person acted like a fool but I can’t help but wonder how it could have turned out if she had hit me - who knows, she or I could win the argument, but I could also see how some would introduce a racist perspective where none is apparent if so inclined. Again the details of the incident you describe are not entirely clear to me and exactly what was said when by both parties remains a bit fuzzy in your description. 100% agree with the other poster that the average person tends to gawk, freeze or remain neutral. Those less common who have different training generally act on issues and rush in to help - this disparity won’t change anytime soon but certainly does nothing to help resolve issues such as this - still lame if those present did not speak up, that part will always irk me. Wow - long rambling response - hopefully made a point somewhere! Cheers, C. PS: 100% on the Karma comment - can't happen soon enough!
