Work Choice Dilemma

Got to job offers, Amazon bookstore or Subaru service advisor. I took a leave or absence from my university to work this year because 34K for online classes isnt cool and im a communications major. Amazon got back with me with part time 19 hours $15.35. I talked to 2 dealerships toyota and subaru and they said they will for sure get back to me but in 2 days. Amazon wants me to reply to them in 24 hours about my availability and when to start. I can start work right away but i want full time. I dont know what to do. Can anyone help? Whats more better to work at and i want to grow and make good money to.

As a communications major, what is your goal after graduating? Not sure if either will help long term ambitions, so might just focus on earnings and what you’d prefer to do.

Can you ask Amazon for more time to decide or drag your feet until you hear back from the others (which are presumably full time)? If not you could always take the Amazon job and reneg later if a better offer comes through. That’s not nice, but you wouldn’t be the first to do that and surely won’t be the last, particularly for a part-time job.

Accept the Amazon job and reneg if something better comes along. Amazon is the most profitable company in the world and simultaneously one of the worst companies to work for, so don't feel guilty about it.

Dealership service advisors are scapegoats for bad corporate Customer Service Index (CSI) ratings. Might be fun for a year if they don't pay on commission for repair jobs sold, but you'll be lucky to make it a year until they clean house again.....

yeah the amazon job is a amazon book job and the recruiter said
hope you're doing well! I recently reviewed your application for the Amazon 4-Star Retail Associate role and would like to consider you for the position.

Please take a few minutes to let us know more about your availability and answer each of the questions below. Please respond within 24 hours and based on whether you meet our eligibility requirements and the interest we receive back from other candidates, we will follow up to confirm whether we are able to move directly to an offer or advise if we cannot move forward. If the position is no longer available, we will certainly keep you in mind for future roles.

You had to know the costs of school, online or not.
Is this THE issue or you feel you just need a break?
How far along are you with your schooling?
Personally I would push to finish.

I dunno what a service advisor job pays, but I sure wouldn't want to be a service advisor. Also it doesn't sound to me by that Amazon email that they want you to start right away. Like others have said I would give Amazon the info they want and if you later decide you want to be a service advisor just tell Amazon you can't do it.

I don't see anything you've described as having 2 actual job offers. From what you've shared, both are preliminary "we'll get back to yous".

It doesn't seem like either job will help you much with your major, so I'd keep looking while those 2 are weeding you out, along with the rest of the applicants.

actually both the dealership and bookstore seem like two nice jobs. If your in L.A. seems like a nice area for either position.

Amazon seems to be offering you a job which is better then "getting back to you" no matter how sincere. I'm curious if Amazon Book store does a lot Prime related sales and distribution.

Service advisor is a good job, if you know cars and have good people skills and don't mind pressure. Dealerships are pretty professional entities and the money can be good. Is there commission for the beginner service advisor?

got it. I love cars and know every engine on every car. Especially honda and bmw engines. Even subaru engines im familiar with. I replied to the Amazon Recruiter that I want to work. Subaru is fulltime, they said it was like a premium jiffy lube where we write up cars for oil change the most

I wouldn't take either. Both are going to absolutely suck. With Amazon you'll work for the for a soul crushing company, I know multiple previous Amazon executives and they couldn't even take the place. The way they were told to treat the peasants ate at them.

Service Advisor will make you despise people but it may help you with the communications side of things. You'll learn to read the clients body language and such.

Do you like to work with your hands?

If you know a lot about cars maybe you should become a car salesman? Work your way up to being a GM, very lucrative if you do well. If you have a hard time getting in as a sales person you could always start as a lot tech, doesn't pay a ton but gets a foot in the door. My brother was a top salesman for Chevy and he made about 1,200-2k per week.

Just thought I'd throw a few ideas out there to you. Oh and what are your hobbies?

The email you posted from the recruiter or Amazon does not indicate you have a job offer. Did they send you an actual offer in writing spelling out the job title and indicating your compensation/benefits? This offer letter would also state how long the offer is valid for and a spot for you to sign.

I've been in this position before. First time I accepted the job but before I started got a better offer. What helped was that I knew the hiring manager to the place I accepted first. I went over to his office personally to explain the situation. He understood and there wasn't any hard feelings.

Second time was some what recently. I used the fact I had offer in hand from one company to push the other company to speed up their decision process.

If you the job from Amazon does turn into an actual offer you accept but then decide to go with the Subaru position if it is offered, you better think of a good exit from Amazon. Regardless of if Amazon is a horrible place to work, you always want to leave on good terms. Never burn a bridge unless you are confident you'll never go back to them. And even then, you might cross paths with the people in the hiring process in the future. Many times the employment world in certain circles is smaller than people think.

You don't have a job with Amazon yet.

Personally, having just been in a service area at BMW, I wouldn't want to be a SA for any car company. Customers think they are entitled to way more than you can promise, just because they bought a car. If you don't have a part in stock, you can't put it on their vehicle.
