What are your hobbies?

What do you do for fun and hobbies? I'm struggling right now with myself and am just wanting to distract my mind for awhile.

Currently it's a new project car. This basically means while I'm at work, I'm either on here or looking for ideas of how to screw my new toy up even worse by making it "better." This also means that on the weekends, rather than working on things I should be, I'm working on the car, making mistakes, fixing them, re-fixing them and breaking other things to have to fix (and re-fix again) later. It sure is a relaxing way to spend your time.

If I need to get lost and away from the things that run around in my brain, I read. There's nothing like a good book to distract you. It's not for everyone, but works for me. Good luck.

Getting outside. Did a kayak trip this past weekend and found some manatees. Great way to unwind and unplug.

Wood working and electronics, i.e. cabinetry, furniture, speaker building...cars...

On the more frugal side, a couple of friends recently started painting by numbers. They're not "artists", but the results were really cool and my buddy says it was really calming and rewarding. Tons of options for that on Amazon.

Also, getting outside and into nature is big for me. Hiking, swimming, canoeing/kayaking...rent a houseboat for the weekend and camp out on it.

Reading sometimes, less so now.

Mostly chess. Which is very therapeutic when you have the upper hand, and downright enraging when you are outclassed. I've muttered some very bad words more than once. But it does distract me.

this above all else!

lots of water sports for me and my family may through october -- we boat, fish, kayak, and SUP. we also like to hike when it's not oppressively hot or bitter cold. we ski in the winter.

and while i'm not obsessive about it like some, i enjoy my yard work...actually any physical labor / chore is very satisfying...especially since i'm basically a desk jockey 50-60 hours per week.

I started to play Banjo about 6 years ago at 47. It is a work in progress but I am to the point I could be in a band if I chose to.

Now I play in bluegrass jams several days a week.

lots of fun making music with your new friends....

Also learning options trading for fun (and hopefully one day profit!)

Outdoors stuff I ride motorcycles and sail.

In the garage I play with old machine tools.

Way too many overall, some current, some on the back burner. I just had my 3 yr old daughter with me full time for the last 6 months, so I am looking to jump back into a few myself.

Mtn. Bike
Box and field lacrosse ( harder as I get older, but played semi-pro Box in Canada as recent as 3 years ago)
Camping/ Rafting
Snowboarding in winter
Paintball (it's been a few years now)
Fish, saltwater reef currently
Project cars when I have time/ space/ money
A/V (basically watching movies right now)
Reading
Swimming (was very active years ago, want to get into competing again)
Gym (secondary to other activities, more due to convenience)

See if the local community college is running courses on welding or machining (or a/t else you have an interest in). The course-format classes make for a little more engagement than just doing things solo, sometimes better for keeping the mind off the unwanted stuff.

And since you are in Florida, you'll get a kick out of Tim Dorsey's book series - kind of like the Florida Hunter S. Thompson.

LOL....I am guilty as well. I always have to be doing something with one of my cars.

As for hobbies...Long walks on the beach...

Seriously:

Cars, Reading, Exercise..(typically weight-training), Martial Arts..(I teach Aikido on the side)...Pretty much any kind of home or car improvement I can get my hands on.

I don't sleep much. And I am OCD about having my day planned and full of stuff to do.

Cut from the same cloth sir. I typically plan my days 2 to 3 days in advance so I have a timeline of how to get everything accomplished. I admire those in life that just wing it. I just can't be one of those guys. Nothing would get done.

Reading, training dogs, collecting weird old shit, usually heavy old shit. Building new shit from the old shit I herd in my house which is starting to look like a museum for weird people by now.

Dogs are my hobby and I have two. Sometimes I wonder if I love them more than my kids (joking). Seriously though they are healthy to have, you have to walk them everyday. So rain, sleet, or snow I'm always exercising. You can take them hiking, swimming, or just on a stroll to a local coffee shop. They never complain wherever you go, unlike the kids.
