Error messages and post count discrepancy

For the past couple of weeks, each time I post I get an error message "syntax error." When I go to the thread I find the post was successful.

In addition, my post count has been 499 for quite some time. I've made several posts in the on-topic forums -- at one point, my post count showed 500, but has now gone back to 499.
