Easy Entry/Exit Quiz

I have a M4 & F15 X5. I have coded the Easy Entry/Exit on both (I did the M4 a year ago).

All seems fine, but something is bugging me. When I close (entering) the M4, the seat moves forward right away. In the X5, I have to start the vehicle first. It's annoying. I know, major problem, right? But it's still annoying.

Can anyone think what I may need to change on the X5?

Actually, I wouldn't mind a slight pause before the seat starts to move in my M3, specifically until after the engine is running. For my normal entry routine, I start the car as soon as I get in. When I press the start button, the seat moves for a split second, stops during engine cranking, then finishes moving after the engine is running. I would prefer the seat not start to move until after the engine is started and running - which sounds like your X5 does from the factory.

I am sure there is a coding parameter that controls the timing of when the seat starts to move - but I wouldn't know where to start looking. Funny you posted this thread as I was thinking about posting a similar question .

X5, doesn't as a factory option .. I coded it in. We want the opposite... lol.

If I figure out the differences, we can solve both our problems

What is somewhat annoying is that when you turn the engine on it stops the seat from moving forward. I haven't taken a look at coding for sometime, but I'll check.

That's true too.

I usually hit Start, turn on my seat and steering wheel, choose my M button, then start the car.

By then, Seat is in position.

Just my habit.

I took a quick look, sadly and weird, there are no comments in the SM cafd files.

I never noticed that. The only time I noticed that the seat would stop moving forward is if I put the car in gear before it reached the final forward position. I always leave my car in neutral when I shutdown. But it if you start your car with it in gear (and clutch depressed) then I could see it behaving that way.

Unsure if the difference is DCT vs MT, but yeah it happens all the times when I start the engine and being a DCT, its always in P. Not a biggie, i just wait for the seat to move then start the car.

That looks to me like a safety feature.

The same...

Any automatic adjustment of the seat can provoke the accidental pressing of the gas pedal while going from P to either M1 or S1, or from engine off to on. So the seat will stop if detects any of that. If this is not safety then it is a liability-protection feature.

So I take back what I said earlier, my mind must be playing tricks on me......

Got in the car after work today and started the car in gear this time. The seat continued to move forward. I was curious so I reset the seat again (stoping the engine, getting out, etc). This time I started the car in gear, then gave the car some gas to start driving forward while the seat was still moving - the seat still moved. Maybe a 6MT thing ? My guess is there is probably some additional coding parameter that is necessary for it to function as designed from the factory.

I guess I could have tested further, maybe the seat will stop moving when you hit a certain speed threshold. Doesn't really bother me anyway since I don't start driving until the seat stops out of habit.
