Looks like a badass car. How hard do you really drive anyway? The practical extent of RWD for car enthusiasts is parking lot donuts and "drifting".

This hot hatch will haul ass without drama. Good to see BMW finally getting into that market decades late.

The 2er Coupes and Convertibles will still be RWD! But the 1er hatches will now be FWD. AWD is available on both 1er and 2ers.

You know I actually don't mind the way it looks other than the fact that it is FWD. Will there be an AWD option?

I'm down for a nice AWD hot hatch!

If it's FWD it better be damn cheap because they're trying to carve a chunk out of a packed segment and I don't see people gobbling up the Golf R.

Not about how hard someone drives, the characteristics are wildly different between all drivetrain configurations. BMW has had Mini for that segment. I'd much rather have just seen the 1 series die off than get bastardized like this.

It looks like a cheaper miniature 8 series hatchback! That's not a bad thing.

Can’t wait for this to become the first FAAR M-car, be badged as the new M1, and the internet to fully and utterly lose its collective mind.

I think the only thing I don't like here is the grill, sorry for you who's reading my message, because you must be tired of people talking about the grill.

I think AWD and 300 hp should be fun.

Many fans don't like the fact that this is not a RWD but Chris Bangle once said that a car maker can't survive by just satisfying the fans. There is a market, and that market is stronger than us, enthusiasts. (for example, SUVs sell more than the cars we love)

The F40 will be a success, and if this helps BMW earn a lot and makes them build RWD cars like the future 2 series coupé, I have no problem with that.

I think the only continent where this won't be available is North America, which is weird IMHO.. there is a market for this car

I think an all black grill would look much better than this one:

No RWD, 4-cyl and no manual in the high end model. From ultimate driving machine to meh driving machine. I’d pick the Golf R, since it at least has a manual.
